Pietschie the Navy doesn't pay for leave flights but does pay for change in duty station flights. Maybe they would reimburse for the amount of money it would cost to go from GL to SC. He should put in for it. Again correct me if I am wrong.

suzyqnj2002, our son graduated from boot camp in 2010, so I don't know how much this has changed, but his group didn't leave until very early Tuesday morning. I had already made our return reservations for that Monday, just in case he was going to be there through most of the weekend, but we still ended up having to leave before he did. At least we got a nice, long visit with him that weekend. (Of course, he had to be back on base each night.)

I took his phone and laptop up, and he got to catch up on his social networking at our hotel, but since we left first, I couldn't give them to him at the airport. We had to bring them back home and FedEx them to him at Goose Creek.

Has anyone whose sailor graduated more recently had them leave after the weekend?

Oops
It's almost a 10 hour drive. So with three drivers, it shouldn't be too bad. Navigating DC and Richmond traffic will be the tricky part.
Enjoy your day. It's sunny and beautiful here in Maryand.

Good morning everyone. I haven't had a chance to post for a while. But I have been able to keep up with everyone.

Congrats to all of the new members and for making it through BC.

Spoke with my son a couple of times this week. Said he's doing well. Had a test and scored a 3.5. He's been struggling to get his average up. Happily, it's a 3.6 right now. He said that he keeps making, "stupid", mistakes on the tests. However he is grasping the material. It's amazing how much he's changed in 5 months. In High School, he could not care less about his grades. Now, he's putting forth every possible moment to study and is actually working hard to be top of his class. Of course that comes with some frustration, lol.

He did say that his grad. date is June 7 so he's coming home for a couple of weeks. Then Power School starts July 2. Anyone else have a son/daughter starting PS that day?

Heading down to GC this Friday. Very excited to see my sailor. It will be me, my Mom and my daughter, who turns 21 next week. We are driving my car, a Camry

Thank you so much! Very helpful! I was afraid I made a mistake making my return flight home for Sat. but I think the rumor he heard was just that...a rumor.  He heard that he wouldn't fly until Tues. so I got scared that he would be on leave and have no family there.  He also said he would hang out with friends so I guess it's just mom getting used to him being a grown man.

im back!!

suzy---we stayed with my son at the airport till he flew out.   you can go to the uso and they will give you passes, which you will need IDs for anyone getting a pass.
