FYI, if the Nuke does not re-enlist, or extend his entire career may be in the training pipeline and then on a single submarine for the remainder of his 6 years.

First sea duty is on subs is targeted at something like 52 or 54 months.  Not sure about CVNs.

Training is taking anywhere from 18 to 28 months recently for EMs and ETs, MMs have shorter A school,  but longer holds recently,  so not sure how that has been working out in terms of total time.

Comment by NF Mom on April 4, 2013 at 2:23am

Anyone who wants to be on a carrier can be guaranteed that job.

Subs are volunteer only, so just pass on the multiple times the recruiter tries to get you to volunteer, and you go carrier.

Shore jobs, based on third hand information, are highly competitive instructor jobs at power school and Nuke A school, keep the reactor manned with qualified nukes ( not students ) at prototype, and recruiter jobs. There are other jobs I am sure, but those are the ones you hear about large numbers of Nukes going to on shore duty.

If any of you have sons in BC right now, I'll happily barter off my daughter.

Susan, so glad it got there today.  The PO told me expected delivery Thurs.  Glad you like it,  cause I sure like making them and Love being able to give them for our guessing game.  6 to go till 2013.  A few years back I had about a dozen hanging in my sunny east window, and my cats wore themselves out chasing all the little prism lights dancing around the room.

Just got back for Charleston.  Had the best time with our sailor.  Went site seeing, took him to eat at places he had heard of and wanted to go to, but couldn't...did a mansion, Fort Sumtner, carriage ride, market place etc.  Just great seeing how happy he is to be there and to be doing what he's doing.    If you like seafood...we found a great place in downtown...but go prepared to wait...it's worth it though.  Oh and we ran across two new sailors C--------a and P-------r if you moms happen to be there.  They were having fun around the market and my son talked to them and encouraged them for a while. (It was neat to see him doing that, because he used to be very quiet and would never spoken out to strangers like he did.  Just proves how happy he is there.)

MN Mom I just got the beautiful suncatcher! You are the best!!!! Thank you so much. I will think of my N4M friends whenever I look at it and that is a special blessing!

NavyNucDad and Sunshine66, Our son shared a 3-br apartment in a nice complex in N. Charleston with two other Prototype Nukes. He said they were put together because they all shared the same Prototype schedule, so their sleep schedules, etc., would be the same.

They get to pocket any housing allowance that they don't spend, so sharing a place can be really helpful.
