Our son is starting Nuke school. He has to report on 12/30 @ 1600. He is really looking forward to starting classes and getting adjusted to his new quarters. I'm happy he is based in SC only 7 hours from home,

Thanks SueSue, I know they have to earn it but was curious how long that took? I thought his recruiter said about a month.

Arebebship it is my understanding that sailors have to be at a certain point in A school before they drive or have vehicle.

nukemom 14 055, do they all get this information? I am really curious, as my son has a car and is headed to south carolina after 2/8/13 graduation and he really wants to take it. Do they tell them what they need to do once there, ie, insurance, license, registration? Thanks. Maybe if anyone else knows they could inform me? thanks merry ho ho.

My son wore his dress blues last night to church with his girlfriend and her grandmother. To his surprise, the sermon was given by a visiting retired Navy chaplain, also in uniform. Nice. Today sailor man is headed to NYC with gf and her family to visit the 911 Memorial.

morning and merry christmas to everybody !!! and thanks everybody for your helpful advice !! one last question, i promise ,lol.. he was not allowed to wear his " transition lenses" , is he now ?? and what kind of badge does he have to have ?? FN??

what an amazing surprise for cathy !!!! OMG enjoy the time with him!!

Comment by cathy on December 24, 2012 at 8:45am

I am still flying high from my surprise in Church.  Because my daughter knew, she brought her camera.  My grandson filmed a video.l  It was great to be able to watch the whole thing on video.  Of course I don't look my best with tears streaming down my face.

By now reality has set in.  My once spotless home has that lived in look and I have mud on the floor.  It is absolutely wonderful.  For all of you with sailors home, enjoy every moment.  I fear the time will go far too quickly.

Merry Christmas one and all!

Cathy, just read your post this morning ... jeez, great way to start the day, crying! Am so happy for you. My sailor has been home since proto grad Nov. 30, can't believe I am lucky enough to have him here a whole month. (dirty laundry and all ... never thought I'd be happy to watch a gallon of milk disappear in 2 days ... it's the little things that I missed when he joined the Navy). My Christmas wish for us all: keep our sailors safe.

Pietschie - There is a document they will provide to your sailor.  He probably already has it.  We have a PIR of 1/11 and our SR has already mailed it home for us to read.   It outlines the length of each school, what is allowed.. ie.. when they can wear civilian clothes, leave base, have a car, what type of living facilities they have for each level of school, etc.  I have tried to post a copy of it here before - but it gets removed.  Ask your son - he will know!   Congratulations on your new sailor!  Merry Christmas!
