Hi I am Jeanette aka as Calebzmom-  He had a pir 12-21-12 but was put in FIT for his running--He was behind about a minute.  Anyway he is supposed to go to Nuke school in GC and had he pir out he would have had until dec 30th to get back there and I think school starts Jan 4th?? I asked his recruiter if he would lose his spot in "A" school but he says he doesn't thnink so.  He scored a 98 on ASVAB and had a 4.5 gpa in HS and grad 9th out of 311 seniors at his high school---he's got a great sense of humor, respect, responsibility and would never quit just becasue of a run.  I hope he calls tomorow -they said usually FIT program guys call on sundays. I need to get his new address and also his address when he gets to GC.  Just know i was really really expecting him home for holidays (he;s only child and i raised him alone since he was 4) so I could see him--I miss him sooooo much---with that said just know that you have someone coming to your program and I will get to text and email eventually--yeah!! I hope to visit GC sometime--I live in Richmond, VA and have some family in NC, so i'll be taking a road trip or two!! Thanks for your support in the future and lets all pray for strength for the run for Caleb!!!

He has his sights set on Engineering Lab Tech (ELT), which is additional training in chemistry and radiological controls that about 25% of MMs are selected for after prototype.  It's an additional three months at prototype after he finishes MM quals.

I got the call yesterday saying I am a sailor.  So proud of my son and can't wait to see him next Friday.  He did say he put down he wanted ET then MM but by the time they got to him there there weren't any spots open for an ET.  He was a little disappointed but said that he was going to also try to get another rate and it had something to do with chemistry.  Can anyone help me with that.  Thanks everyone!

Quite a week! Comps passed and a long flight home just to hug his mama. Sam is finally home and I don't want to let him out of my sight, at least today.

Have a very Merry Christmas and safe travels ...

Anyways, moving on, we are traveling home for the holidays, so hope you all have a wonderful time!!  Btw, we're going to be back here for New Years eve and are having a dinner and stuff for any sailor that couldn't make it home, so if any of your sons or daughters are around Charleston, message me!

Also, since I have known so many of them as a whole, I don't really think there's much difference personality wise.  We're a very social couple so I have met a pretty wide range of them.  Last weekend we had primarily mm's over even though my bf is an em, but the weekend before there was more et's.  Yea some of the mm's are athletic, yes some of them are quieter, yes some of them are more technical, but so are sailors in each of the other groups.  I know my bf is more hands on and probably would have enjoyed MM as well, but he's an em.

ProudNavymom- I agree, I don't really care how they get chosen.  And honestly, if the sailors are upset at first, they quickly get over it, so I don't think it's a really big deal to be honest.

And William, I don't think the Navy is the most efficient well oiled machine, nor do I understand the way they do things sometimes, so who really knows!

Rickover used the crooked chairs for everybody who visited regardless of who they were. It was his way of controlling the environment, keeping others off balance and giving him an advantage. Most people felt uncomfortable and he gave the impression of stability. You are so right, zachsmom, that those poor interviewees were thrown for a loop!

Another piece of Rickover trivia, Jimmy Carter, long before he was president, proudly served in Rickover's nuclear navy.
