OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by Kat (MM Nuke) on December 5, 2012 at 11:45am: He probably gets to come home then because the Nuke school is on a two week stand down over the holidays, so they probably wouldn't have anything for them to do if they arrive right before Christmas. When he gets there on the 29th he will most likely get checked into his room, then have the next week of sitting around, or doing small tasks around base. When my son's best friend, not a nuke, graduated from BC 3 years ago, he also got to come home for Christmas then report to his linguistics school after the stand down.

Comment by pietschie on December 5, 2012 at 10:50am: i was surprised that he gets to come home, but he said it was his choice, he had 10 days and he could use them.. maybe because it fell on christmas, idk.. maybe cause he is very young,he turned 18 during bootcamp.. not sure but i am happy!!

Comment by pietschie on December 5, 2012 at 10:16am: morning all, thanks for all the helpful comments .. boxer shorts, huh.. that is funny. yes we are going to his graduation which is on 12-21.. he then gets to come home for christmas until 12-29 , that is when he leaves for SC.. maybe that is why i had to buy his ticket?? i am not sure, just know that my son said , he needs a ticket, so he is allowed to go on leave... i bought a refundable/changeable ticket, just in case !!

Comment by kfguay on December 4, 2012 at 9:41pm: Hi! My son is graduating A School on Friday! Very proud of him as he is Honorsmen, #1 in his class. We are attending his graduation but have heard nothing about it. All he has said is it starts at 9 am. Does anyone have any information like, where is graduation, can we take pictures? Any information would help tremendously! Thanks! He is an EM if that makes a difference.

Meanwhile start stocking up on care package goodies and also cheerful cards. Send them regularly; A school is tough and power school is tougher ... your sons will appreciate your support. And hang on ... the nuke pipeline is some kinda exciting ride for parents, too!

PIR is fantastic. They can't get their phone, ipad, etc., until they are at the airport waiting to leave. That could be VERY early morning, though a few fly out later. The Navy issues a black bag they can stick that stuff in before they board the plane. You can hook up with your sailor at the USO. I know there is a USO at O'Hare and I think I remember somebody said there was one at Midway too.

There are moms here all along the pipeline so lots of info available. My son has finished Proto so it's been 2 and a half years since I was in boot camp mode. Good luck! :o)

If he's going directly from GL to Charelston, the Navy takes care of their tickets. Are you going to his PIR? If you are then you can take him a couple of things that he will need right away, IF you can meet him at the airport in Chicago to give them to him. He can't take anything back to base in GL. You can take to the airport, in a black back pack, his cell phone, a laptop or ipad, a change of clothes or two, for when he's in his room. You can mail him more things once he gets there. I am sending you a private message regarding some other things my son went and bought for himself right away when he got there.
