While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by GodBlessAmerica on November 21, 2012 at 12:42pm: Ingrid, I am not sure how the transition from boot camp to GC works during the holidays. If I remember correctly from last year, he will fly out to GC the day after PIr. The only ones with leave are the ones that PIR right before Christmas. Once the sailors get to Goose Creek, they always have some "Indoc" time anyways. During that time, they get "classed" on the rules of the base. Then they eventually "class up". Once they are in classes, they will eventually "phase up" which means that they will earn privilages, such as wearing civilian clothes and having a car.

Even though there is a "stand down," there will still be a lot of people on base.

By the way, to all the new families, a big welcome. If your sailor talks about "Rickover;" he is referring to the school building where they have class and study. The building is named after Admiral Rickover, a driving force to the Navy's nuclear program. He is an interesting person to know about.

How he told me was pretty funny--he is such a Mr. Smarty Pants. Sent me a text: "That package you sent the other day. It was sent to the wrong person." Me: "What??" Him: "It was MM3 Last Name." Me: "Um, yeah." Him: "Yeah, it's MM2 Select now." LOL Didn't tell him I knew already. He's very excited.

If holiday stand down is until Jan 6th. Do they still leave the next day and then have stand down at GC with everyone else? Thanks. Ingrid

I'm thinking that my son will be off work at that time so he can pick me up !!! YIKES Give me a day to just cook him some meals for the freezer and the weekend. When are you planning to arrive in BS?

I got son's reservations made today and he is good to go! I took your advice and he will be arriving back the day before to be safe.....so happy that we will get to spend time with him before he starts all his schooling.
