Susan, well we have two navy boys in the family already, why not a Nuke SIL to round it out, right?  Our girl is a Christian gal and that is very important to her.  Where is your son at right now?

Penny I have a 25 year old single sailor that lives in WA. I am always trying to fix him up. He is looking for a nice Christian lady that can handle Navy life! He would be mortified if he knew I posted this:)

Yea, my son does call me at least once a week.  I think that it is why it is so easy for him to go off and see everyone else.  He doesn't get to talk with them otherwise. I suppose he figures I know about his life.  I became "friends" with 2 of the moms in his class.  He laughs and says that I know more about his class than he does.  We are taking a family vacation to GC in October.  He is not going to some of the sights so that he can do them with us.  That's nice.  See - I needed you guys to realize how blessed I really am.

Aggie, I agree with the rest.  The majority of the nation is very proud of all our military guys/gals.  Just the way it should be.  This weekend when I was at the Navy week/Air and Water Show in Milwaukee, I saw a number of people asking military (mostly air force and navy) for autographs.  It was great to see young kids seeing our military as something special.  It was also wonderful to see the military so happy to accomodate.

I would love to be a match maker for my sailor also, but he has informed his dad and I that he doesn't have time for a girl.  When our guys find that girl, those girls will be LUCKY!!

J's Mom and Nancy Jo, thanks for your kind words.  I was just kidding, my pride's not really bruised at all.  I am very very proud of my son for all he's done, and I know he'll do well wherever the Navy sends him.  And J's mom, I'm in Oklahoma.  We're not quite 105 today, but I've had it with 100+ temps for days on end.

Aggie08, you are the mother of a United States sailor! Your son took a huge leap just signing the bottom line, then made it through BC and A School. Most people,  don't have the courage to do that. My son has relationships with other military who are not nukes and the respect is there no matter what their role is or was. I'm proud of your son and I know you are too.

I'm glad you are keeping up here. I sometimes think of some of the moms who don't talk as much and wonder how they are doing. We're mothers of sailors together and that makes us sisters. I hope you keep us informed of his progress. Hugs!

J's mom, I know what you mean about all that work.  The chief in BS told him since he'd completed so much of the nuke program, he might end up in propulsion, just not nuclear propulsion.  Actually he's handling it possibly better than I am.  What discouraged him was being behind in prototype the whole time. I think he was actually relieved when they finally cut him loose.  I could hear it in his voice when he called to tell me, it was like a huge weight had been lifted.  He said he'd been waking up having panic attacks, and sleeping has never been a problem for my sailor!  My mom pride is kind of bruised, because being able to say "my son's a Navy nuke" is such a big thing, but I'm ok with it because he is.  Right now I'm hoping they keep him in CT for a while because I want to go up there in November and see the fall foliage!

In basic, my son was called "Smart Guy" by the RDC.  My sailor said it was nice not to hear his real name.

Mary, I am having a hard time emotionally dealing with my sailor coming home.  I know this sounds bad, but maybe some others can relate.  By your post, maybe you can.  The last time my sailor was in for Memorial Day weekend, I know I had longer conversations with him while he was at Goose Creek.  Now, I am looking forward to having him home for a week.  Again, he is making a lot of plans with friends.  He calls home at least once a week, so I know that he is very updated with us.  I am happy that he is keeping in touch with his friends.  They are great guys, but I still am feeling a little selfish.  I think I will ask him for one day with just mom and dad.  Thanks for listening, all.

My son was 10 days from proto graduation and he was dropped from the nuke program.  He's in Groton right now waiting to be re-rated.  I guess the Navy keeps them as long as they think there's any possible way they can finish, and it just finally became mathematically impossible for my son to complete all the nuke requirements in the time he had left
