Txgal-Donna sometimes they are too busy to pick up packages right away.  I used to send my son Ultrathon insect repellent, vitamins, razors, instant noodles (particular Asian brands not the grocery store kind LOL).   Better to avoid anything sweet or perishable.  If you send home made baked goods seal it in freezer bags and make sure to bake enough for everyone LOL.

hello all!!

txgal---yes!  you can send packages while they are in school.   i usually let my son know when i am sending it so he knew it was on its way.   i sent my son one at least once a month. i usually asked him if there was something he would like, then i would send him a little something extra.

tjl---hope you enjoyed your time with your son!!!  it is always nice when we get to see them.  i will be leaving soon to head there for power school graduation.  i am always praying for them!!!

Welcome aboard, Txgal-Donna! Care packages are a GREAT idea, very much appreciated .. just beware the ant situation when you send food (packages might sit around for a while before being picked up, and South Carolina in summer is buggy).  Wishing your son all  the best in the nuke pipeline!

I'm pretty sure the overnight policy during t-track is the same as power school.  They have liberty on the weekends unless they have watch.

Returned last night from a spur-of-the-moment trip to GC last week.  So good to see my son.  There is a lot of stress - ps physics test last Thursday was brutal, Sailor Blackwells accident, the death of Sailor Stotesbury, and another suicide attempt.  The sailors that make it thru nuke school are truly deserving.  They really need all the prayers & support they can get!

Comment by hk1853 on July 9, 2012 at 7:05pm
Does anyone know what the overnight policy during t track is?

Hi Everyone - if anyone is from the Inland Empire (Southern California) we are having a lunch get together this Saturday, 7/14, in Rialto.  If you would like more information it's posted in the "Inland Empire of SoCal Navy Moms" group.  Hope to see you there!

FYI: nice little "just because" gift is a mini-Mag lite, a 6" really strong flashlight with carrying case, $10 from Amazon.com ; my son asked for one to use while standing watch.

Comment by William in Nashua on July 9, 2012 at 11:44am

Hello cindcmomdp well that means your son probably just started boot camp recently since his graduation is 7 weeks from now.  I would tell him to focus on doing everything right boot camp because my son's division began with 14 nukes and graduated 8, and that was just boot camp Lol.

The ones that make it through boot camps as nukes get everything they need upon arrival to Goose Creek.  The rooms are furnished and they just need to buy toiletries and cleaning supplies.  There is a mini-NEX within easy walking distance that carries all the essentials.  The first several days is indoctrination where they are told all the rules.

Hello all. Just joined as I am looking ahead to SR grad on 8/24 and it seems there is a tiny bit of stress for my sailor to look forward to...not that he has not researched all he could on this job. He will head to A school in SC and was wondering on a few pointers after grad. It appears in most cases they fly out the day after grad...then what? Does the navy supply them with everything they need in their rooms? Any general info, or more, greatly appreciated.
