While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by momofanuke on June 14, 2012 at 8:06pm: NikiH...I took my son's phone/charger, laptop bag, contacts and some boxers...I took them to the airport and he stuffed the clothes in one of his bags and then he put the other stuff in his laptop bag and that was one of his carry-ons. Don't give him other civilian clothes yet, he can't wear them for 4 weeks (but he can wear the boxers after BC) After my son got to Goose Creek and got his address I sent him some civies and some other stuff that he wanted, the civies acted as packing material for the stuff and he will have them as soon as he is allowed to wear them again. niki-----if you are meeting your son at the airport before he flies out to A school, you can give him his things then. they dont need alot of clothes because they usually have to stay in uniform for a week or two. he will receive a black backpack that he can put his laptop in.

i send my son food and plastic wear once a month. usually food items he cant get there that he likes.

I am wondering if I should bring him anything when we go to Chicago? iPod, phone, lap top, clothes? Can he take this with him from boot camp to A school? or should I wait and mail it all off to Charolette later?

Comment by GodBlessAmerica on June 14, 2012 at 7:38pm: Mine also appreciates consumable food. He also told me that when I send food make sure I also send an airtight storage bag/ container for it. They are not allowed to have any open food.

Comment by Emily-aaronsgirl11 on June 14, 2012 at 7:00pm: They're not allowed to have coffee makers in their barracks rooms. Or candles or candle warmers or anything that could be a fire hazard.

A nice coffee mug or thermos would be a good gift though! Aaron always had availability of coffee at A and Power School. In A school I believe his class all threw a couple bucks in and they got a really nice coffee maker to share. :)

Comment by Mark on June 14, 2012 at 4:22pm: Definitely check before getting a coffee maker; they probably cannot have one with a warming plate for fire hazard reasons, plus it would be a liability in room inspections, since they have to be immaculate. Remember also that he would probably consuming most coffee where he studies, and he must do all his studying in the schoolhouse. If he likes "good" coffee, youi might consider sending a bunch of those Starbucks Via instant coffee things - they're pretty good.
