NavymomLG, 7 weeks sounds right. My son just went on crew last week.

Re: eating during prototype...I bought my son a slow cooker cookbook, just have to send it off today. He enjoys cooking but not after working a 12hr day shift. He said he doesn't even like to eat that late. He & his roommate were preparing meals together, but his roommate just started prototype this week so their schedules aren't going to coincide well.

Congrats Dor on E5!!  And pumpkin pancakes, can I just say YUM!  I am surrounded by Trader Joes and have never really shopped there.  I am definitely going to have to check it out.

My first trip to GC this Friday!  Very excited since we missed A school graduation.  Still waiting to hear if Andrew's leave for next week is approved - doesn't start power school until late May so hoping all is OK.  Are there others on here from KY?  Wouldn't mind having company on the long drive!

I might be easier to just say TJ's in Silverdale is across the street from Costco.

I live in California and everyone shops at Trader Joes. They are starting to pop up on the east coast and there is a new one in Siverdale WA. 9991 Mickelberry Road. My son loves to cook and is a health nut but since he has no time he lives at TJ's. It has excellent prices for quality food. It carries a lot of ready made meals and frozen meals. Perfect for sailors:) They have a nice variety and always add new and fun things to try:)

Don't worry, juliebelle. He won't have any where to cook until after about a year of schooling. :) Until then, he'll probably live off a small amount of galley food and a large amount of Subway. :)

I'm interested in finding out about the location of the Trader Joe's near Bremerton/Silverdale too.  I'll definitely have to tell my sailor and DDIL.  I LOVE the yogurt covered macadamias and the carob covered raisins they have.    There's supposed to be a farmers market near Olympic college during the summer months too.

7 weeks of off crew, NavyMomLG.

Check out This Blog. They really wrote a nice run down even if it was from the Officer's point of view. The explanation of the schedule is a big help. As long as you know what week he starts on, you can follow his schedule. After the first or second round, it gets easier to understand. :)

susank- Where is the Trader Joe's in Washington? Is it closer to the Tacoma/Seattle area from Bangor/Bremerton? I'd never heard of the place until my friends down here at Clemson gave me these amazing cookies from there that they sell at Christmas Time. I'd love to stock up next year. :)

RE: cooking while in prototype ... I had 2 words for my son.... CROCK POT. Chili, stew, soup, pulled pork, pot roast, good hearty cheap guy stuff. They can only make/eat so much pasta!

welcome littleone68!

I know how little I feel like grocery shopping and then cooking after a long (or any day!) at work, I can't imagine how a 20-year old would feel about it after those crazy days.  Just one more life skill they need to figure out to help them survive this career they have chosen.  I still want to hug them and cook for them though - but I have absolutely no desire to clean for them LOL!

Can any of you experienced Prototyper's clarify if they have 7 or 8 weeks of Off Crew (I believe that is the correct term).  I thought I read on here that there were 8 but my son said 7.  I am trying to follow his schedule so I know the best time to call or text him.  I know they have their weekends during this time, but then go on that crazy schedule.
