I was also just thinking about where William has been?
uffda6: I am not sure but I don't think they can promise BS for Prototype, it seems more of the ET's go there and the MM's stay in GC. I wouldn't be surprised if your recruiter said BS because you have family there. Just my 2 cents.
GodBlessAmerica - my son has been in GC since September. I think they could leave base on weekends pretty much right away, but had to be in uniform at all times when not in their room, and I don't think they could spend the night off base until they phased up. When my son phased up he was allowed to spend the night with us at the hotel when we went to visit. If memory serves me correctly, they phased up two or three weeks after classes started. Your son will be in "indoc" for a bit when he gets there until classes start.
It has been a long time since I have been on here. My son's PIR is on Friday, then he will be heading to Goose Creek. I am so excited! Once he gets to GC, how long before they get to drive a car and leave base? A very good friend is attending the Citadel, and they want to get together.
Hi, I am new to the Nuke group. My son is still in boot camp but will graduate there 3/30 He is going to goose creek following boot camp. I was wondering how long he will be in A-school? The recruiter told my son he would go to Ballston Spa after A-school. We were originally from there before we moved to AZ 4 years ago, for my son it will be like going home because we still have family in that area, so I know he won't mind being there at all. I have been reading some of the posts here, and I think I need to learn a whole new language.
I too have thought of William several times the past weeks, and he should know we miss his input. I remember the Hurricane hit in his area and power was lost. Anyway,,,, William, let us know how you are if there is need of prayer.
Does anyone know what ever happened to William from Nashua? I read a negative conversation in the "Nuke School Charleston" group, wich later got partially deleted. After those post, I never read another peep from William. That was months ago. Has anyone spoke with him. I hope his son is still doing well in the program.
Mine is grad hold at BS. He was told to use up any days over XXX amount because once prototype starts he won't be able to take them and then will loose them. The GF is getting those days. Lucky her!
juliebelle - mine got leave after A School, and Power School, PLUS I got to have him for 1 Thanksgiving and both Christmases. 1st Christmas was T Track so he only got 7 days instead of 2 week shutdown. This past Christmas was just a fluke and he got 5 days, but that was ONLY because Christmas feel on his "off" weekend in Prototype and he was ahead of the curve.
A lot of it depends on where they are in the pipeline in relation to when was the last time they had leave. So, if they get leave at Christmas and graduate A school in January or February, then leave after A School is unlikely. Lots of variables.
Mine is supposed to get 10 days of leave after Prototype IF he get picked up for ELT (or so he's been told), if not on ELT pickup, then 30 days leave to get packed up and moved to his duty station.
I would think that they could take leave between Power School and Prototype if they're on a hold, not sure though cuz we went straight to Prototype, though we had two weeks to get there. They definitely get leave before reporting to their first boat/ship, though it may get cut a little short if the ship is deploying right away. Normally, though - they get to take a month at that point.
Connie - are you familiar with TSP, the Thrift Savings Program? You can google it if not, that is a way to defer up to 10% of their income from taxes, and the first 5% is matched,
