Mama C, I like that Army/Navy  rivalry better than the football game!

Kate, I remember you talking about this injury way back when my son was in BC. Glad he has finally gotten the surgery he needed and is recovering.

Thanks Dor!  It's fun having such wonderful "Family Rivalry/Cousin Rivalry" of the Armed Forces!  These two boys are 7 1/2 yrs. apart, but they are two peas in a pod/glued at the hip - whatever you want to call it.  They have had this bond since B was 8 yrs. and Michael was 16 yrs.  It's so cool!

Have a great rest of your weekend and praying you're all recovering from too much rich food and lots of shopping!

yes, it's been a long haul getting to this point of finally having surgery and all.  Hopefully he will respond well to therapy and be back at it before we know it.  Just hoping he doesn't fall down the stairs again, which is what started all of this, since they didn't move him to a first floor room before the surgery. :(

Comment by Kat (MM Nuke) on November 26, 2011 at 2:26pm

oh Thanks Dor.  That seems like so long ago now.  My son was just home for 12 days, recooping after ankle surgery from that injury he got way back in March.  He finally had surgery on Nov. 3.  They allowed him to come home on the 12th to reoop here for a while, so we got him for Thanksgiving this year.  He went back to GC yesterday, feeling much better.  He's not liking those crutches though (who would).  should get all the stitches out next week and start therapy.

Central Coast Mom  - my son graduated power school in October and I was able to go.  the only things I can think of are that on Thursday they will most likely only have a half day, so you will get to spend a lot of time with him.  On Friday they open the gates at around 7:30.  I got there at 7:35 and tons of people were already there.  I really wanted to get a good seat, and I did, but I found out later that it really isn't that necessary to worry about getting a good seat.  When your son's section is ready to walk across the stage and receive their certificate, they will announce the next group and all the family and friends get to go right up to the stage to take photos, so it doesn't matter where you are sitting at that point.  You will get good photo opportunities.  They have a time for photos before they begin the ceremony, where each section is standing together in a semi circle at the back of the seating area.  So you get to go take photos then too.  Make sure to dress warm.  If the ceremony is outside the Rickover casts a shadow over that area and it's shady and cold.  If it's raining I heard they take it inside.  The ceremony should be over by about 11:00.   Have a great time.  I think there is a meet and greet for this group set up for thursday night.  Look in the discussions above.

I call this picture Army vs. Navy - This is how my sailor was greeted by his cousin Wednesday afternoon!

My son drove from GC to Alabama for Thanksgiving.  This Mama was a bit nervous because B has never driven that far by himself ever!  His cousin is stationed at Ft. Benning but lives just across the border in Alabama.  I asked him to call me to let me know that he got there and I was lucky enough to have him call me 3 or 4 times during the trip!  Part of that may have been driving boredom, but it sure felt good to chat with B at different times throughout the day.
B had a great time with his cousin - tons of food, mostly made by Army boy - turkey, ham, ribs, all the sides, some Chinese food (that was brought by someone else).  In all, there were about 15 people - all Army with my token Nuke!  I was thankful that if B couldn't be here for Thanksgiving that he was still with family.
Oh, the fun part to all of this - B got to drive a Bradley Fighting Vehicle yesterday!  His cousin pulled some strings and was able to take him out and let him drive.  B was the only one in the Bradley - his cousin was outside directing him.  I have a picture of B when he was about 6 or 7 yrs. in a Bradley wearing a helmet.  It was on display at our local grocery store parking lot.  Now it's de-ja-vu all over again!  (Ok, I know I didn't spell that right, but you all get the idea!)
B is safely back in GC - got back last night - had duty this morning.  He called several times again yesterday during the drive.  He let me know he stopped at a local farmer's market type stand and bought Georgia peaches and other stuff to take home, along with left overs from his cousin.  So glad he had that time with his cousin, especially if he couldn't be here.
Hoping you all had a blessed Thanksgiving.

Our trip was looooong. Our first stop was in Missouri to see my sister and her family. Spent a day there then headed out west. We drove through Kansas and stopped in Colorado Springs for the night. We saw the Garden of the Gods and then got back on the road. The rest of the sightseeing was done pretty much from the interstate. Drove about 9 hours the next day, and the last day was supposed to be about 12, but then we realized we could take a different route, drive an extra 2, and get to Washington a day early. So we went with that option. And I'm glad we did. It's given us more time to spend here with my brother and his wife and let Aaron get his stuff together before he goes to meet his ship. He's all antsy and nervous and it's driving me crazy! haha.

Now that is the best bargain ever! (at any price)  I want one that only my husband can use too!

Emily, how was your trip and what sites did you see?

Comment by Kris, Stevens mom on November 25, 2011 at 9:00pm

just stopping by to see whats new & glad everyone had a great thanksgiving.

ours was quiet just my husband, daughter & myself - hubby had to work 2ndn shift so after 3pm it was just me.  so at 7pm i decided to go buy cat food and toothpaste @ walmart - couldnt believe people already there with their hands on items jsut waiting for the sales to start.  i worked today & it was nice & quiet:)

Dor - keeping all your boys in my prayers - you too!

i didnt hear from my sailor, but why would i expect too... usually do only about every three weeks, he never wants me to send him anything & then if he does ask its for comfort stuff like toilet paper, etc & so i send it and then he tells me he doesnt have room and gives most of what i send him away ....he's such a turd.

suebal - my husband saved over $1000 once on a vaccuum. my friend wanted a rainbow but needed people to see a demonstration to get the free shampooer..anyway we watched the demo, my hubby loved the vacuum but wasnt going to pay like $1800 so the minute the salesman left my hubbby went on ebay & got a new one with all attachments for $500  "and ladies the best part is yes - it is his vacuum, hes the only one that uses it!
