Wow, I had to laugh as I read all the "cleaning" stories. When D headed for BC we left his room as is because Kelsey came home on the weekends from college. When they decided to get married, then D's room became Kel's room. When they headed to GC, they cleaned the room out and I have a hard time even looking in it. I wish now I would have taken some pictures of "his" room. He had Navy posters up and a Navy flag and other things that just warmed my heart. Now, Korey uses it as a weight room and it collects odds and ends. It is hard some days because I miss them so much. They are only 18 years old and growing up so fast. It's just hard.

Monday, Monday...Winter storm warnings,  ice and snow.  I'm sure my son is loving GC weather right now.  Actually, he's probably in Rickover and not noticing the weather ...lol   Me, I'm not to excited about warming the car and sliding across parking lots.

Have a WARM and happy day!

Ahhh.. Home....  Yes,. it's been an eventful spring break road trip.  Reading back on posts from the last several days.

RoomMate... My son ( who was on his own for 3 years before bc.) said he has won the roommate lottery this time.  He had a Roommate in college who was a slug. He met the girl he thought he was going to marry, they moved in together, had 3 or 4 room mates during that relationship, broke up with her and moved home while "DEP"ping...   He said this room mate, although only 18 and he is 22) is the best.  Cole suggested right from the get-go to not be "best buddies" because if there were ever disagreements they had no place to get away from each other.  So they have remained friends and each have their own social lives, and do make a point of eating together once a week, but don't "chum" around together.   They seem to have a great relationship.

Cleaning Room:  Bahahahahah... cleaning room... yeah.. right... He moved from one room to another in his apartment, then from apartment to friends house, then home....  cleaning...   we deep cleaned before he moved home... and my INTENT before I knew he was coming home ( while in DEP... for 9 months...) was to strip his room, the beautiful wood floor and window woodwork  ( house built in 1870...it is time for a-strippin') Yeah. didn't happen... Then I thought while he was home we would do it together.. WronG!!  My 90 year old mom had to move closer and wanted to renovate a house, so that is how the summer was spent.... Here is hoping that THIS is the summer I can work on my house... wait... youngest child going to college 10 hours away in August.... Hey I am seeing LOTS of time to work on house... ( BAhahahahah yeahright!)

Skype is very easy to set up and it's free! You do need either to have a camera on your computer or you have to buy a webcam.

I actually mentioned skypeing to my hubby.  My son "probably" would do it.  He was such a homebody when here, that his life has done a total 360!!  He is so loving it!  Has so many great friends and is doing so well in school.  He's hopefully going to call tomorrow to let us know how he does on his test.  I'll have to tell him about Skype.  Is it easy to set up?

Pamela, we Skype with our son about once a week. That seems to be the right frequency--not too much, not too little. (sounds like Goldilocks LOL)

Cleaning stories!  Wow!  Where do I begin.  My oldest left on 12/7 for BC.  A couple of weeks before he left he pretty much cleaned out what he wanted and didn't want.  Was a great help to me.  Some of the old ratty t-shirts I would of definitely got rid of.  But, he wanted them!  A week after he got to GC I paid him a visit and brought all his civi's with me.  He was so happy to get that huge bin of clothes!  Oh, and his skateboard, tv, and x-box!!

My youngest is leaving for BC on 4/14.  We'll have an empty nest!  He just cleaned out his room.  Got rid of so much stuff also.  He just has to get all his x-box gear in order because I have no idea what all the wires and hook-ups mean!  He told me he'll do it and that he doesn't want me to touch it.  He'll be going to Pensacola for his A-school (CRT).

My husband and I have been doing lots of cleaning also.  We are putting our house on the market in a couple of days.  Right now I'm excited about it.  But, I'm sure once it sells and we have to move it will be a pretty sad time.  Lots of great memories in this little house!!  We live in Conover, NC and hope to be moving to FL.  Not sure where yet though.  Hopefully it doesn't take a very long time to sell.  It's a beautiful little house.  Move-in condition.  Anyone interested?  LOL!!!!

Oh, and a quick question for you ladies.  Does your son/daughter call you on a regular basis?  Mine barely does!!  It's so hard because he lived at home right up until he left.  I always knew where he was.  Now it's so different.  But, I do understand he's busy and all.  But, gees!!!!  My husband told me I need to totally cut the apron strings!!  I know he's right, but, boy it's hard!!

Diana, love the tough love vs. mushy love comment.  We gave our son the tough love when he was home, and now he can get the mushy love!

Well, I have to take something I said back.  Since my son found out that his uncle wants him to be an usher at his wedding in October, my son said he'd prefer to wear his dress blues instead of spending the money to rent a tux.  I think it's a combination of him being more comfortable wearing his dress blues a lot (well, at least at GC) and not wanting to spend the money to rent a tux.  He's definitely carrying on mom and pop's thriftiness!

Have read and laughed my way through all the stories.  So good to have other moms with similar problems with their kids.  One of the reason I felt so strongly about cleaning my son's room was I wanted to make sure he understood how important it was for him to succeed in the Navy.  He was just a few months short of getting kicked out of the house before he enlisted and then we had to wait another 9 months for him to leave for boot camp.  Don't get me wrong, he is pleased with his decision now and we love him so much and are very proud of him.  He just needs a little more tough love than mushy love right now. :-)
