It sounds as though Navynrocks's son is now in THU, after going through BS.  That's what my son did.  If he could have gone straight to GC after BS, he would have loved it, but that's not what happened.  Tell your son just to hang in there at THU until a spot opens up at GC.  One thing nice about THU is, if he's there long enough, after he phases up he can wear his civvies.  (OMG, I almost typed skivvies.  LOL)  They will keep him busy with various duties.  My son helped out with the very new recruits--right off the bus.

Sherri, not ask questions?  What's up with that?  I say ask away.  If you can't get an answer for security reasons, fine, that's OK.  I ask lots of questions here and of my son, all the time.  I know that I can't know everything he is doing and that is fine with me.  It'll be bad enough once they're out to sea and can't tell us where or what they're doing then, but now, they can tell us SOMETHING, if not everything.

hey sherri(michaelsmom)

wish I had more answers to add about IT...but I think your son is going to be amazing wherever he lands, and with everything he already knows, he'll be a real asset to the sailors there that are fresh out of BC.  The waiting thing is so hard...I think he'll hit class on Monday like a race horse jumping out of the gate!  :)  and I'm sure u know by now that this group is all about questions, answers, love and acceptance.      ((((((  GROUP HUG  ))))))

Oh, and we went to GL to see our son the weekend after he did BS. (No PIR.) We brought him his phone, which made him very happy.

Navynrocks, if he missed his original spot for his class, I think he has to wait in THU until a spot opens up. For my son, that was a month. He did BS end of August 2010, then left for GC a month later. But I'm guessing it won't necessariky be the same for everyone.

Nuke ET...Michael is enlisted, the stuff I put below is what he will come out with after his IT A school he's getting ready to start on Monday.  Sorry if it was confusing.  He was Nuke and didn't make through power.  Been waiting for 3 months to get on with his navy career.

Also, I'm so frustrated with another group...uuuuugggghhh..you all are so nice and helpful.  I just had one tell me not to ask questions bout what my son may be doing.  Said, I can't be an effective mom if I'm too worried.  NOT HAPPY!! IT's not like I'm asking to see all the books and teacher notes, etc, etc.  I just wanted to know how long school was, then what would happen, etc.  oh my!

sherri(michaelsmom) Wow, I didn't realize that a BS college degree could still be enlisted, or will he be an Officer when all his "schooling" is done? I am learning lots of new stuff! Spoke with my son today and he is planning on coming home at the end of October!!! A school graduation is set for 30th of Sept, but we probably will not be able to attend :o(

Comment by navynrocks (1201M) on September 17, 2011 at 8:49pm

Hello All, Im not sure if i should be posting yet -long story but my son got sick week 3 of BC then ended up w/Pneumonia and in the RCU last couple months or so, BUT he passed his PFA went to BS and now is in the THU awaiting his orders to Nuke School.

Just curious how long is it typically before they leave GL to go to Goose Creek?

How long is it before you all could see your Sailor ?  UGH i miss him so .

Thankyou for info.

so, finally got a few replies on the other sites.  So funny, they told me Michael would not class up, because he's just getting there and they haven't even started his clearance yet.  So, I had to tell them, yep, they have, he's been on hold in GC and his orders give him a class to go to Monday, and a grad date, and that they've been working on his clearance for awhile now.  I told them he wasn't coming from BC and that was probably the difference.  Some have been there for about 3 months doing paperwork, but can't start school till it comes back.  Then A school is 19 weeks long.  He will have 3 or 4 certifications, of software and programming when done with A school.  Question, do any of you know what this may mean----24 shore and 60 sea.  it has to do with sea/shore rotation, but I don't know how to decipher.  Any clues.  oh, and he made it safely to p-cola, just waiting on Duty driver to pick him up.

Dor, I understand 100%.  I joined 5 groups for the IT, and the base he will be at.  2 groups have a tad bit of action...but only a couple comments, nothing like here.  The others, nothing.

Quiltblue, I wasn't sure how it would be with him going down there with the phasing.  Since he bypassed all the indoc schooling and is heading straight to class on Monday.  Since he's already a Petty Officer, I wasn't sure.  Phase 1 there is only 2 weeks max. --that was one of the replies I received, but it was also stated it was for the ones coming from BC, so a tad confused. I figured he'd have to still follow the guidelines there.

He is at airport ready to leave.  Oh, we did tell him to make sure and change Page 2 when he does all his sign in paperwork.  That way, maybe the ball will start rolling with Sarah.  At least, they will get paid for her--however that all works.  It will make her feel better too, plus we can go down to huntsville and get her ID badge made and she'll have insurance and stuff!!!!
