Dor - the Sub Moms group is quite active. Submarine crews are just too small to have more than a couple of moms that happen to be active on this site.

sherri(michaelsmom) all Sailors will Phase up... it has to do with their classes and training. Don't talk about the pay rates too much, some will be receiving higher pay than others because of differing reasons... college degrees or Eagle Scout or military school training. I am sure he will do great if he studies and follows the rules. My son is set to graduate A school on the 30th, and I am so very proud of him to have traveled this very challenging career path!

Connie, will be praying!  My hubby just had physical and is good, but will nag my son for sure!  If I gotta get my boobies squished, then they can be checked!

Also, ladies, let me just tell you all, how great this group is.  I joined like 4-5 groups to find out about IT, and yea...not going great!  Not much info that anyone can tell me.  Oh well, guess Michael will find out when he gets there.  Oh, did find out that he will do an A school and a C school later--cause he's in 6 years.  Also, most of the guys there are straight out of BC and are E-1 right now.  Apparently, he will be big man on campus--most finally get through A school and are promoted to E-3.  So Michael will like that for sure.  I'm wondering, will he do the phasing up??  At rfirst I thought yes, but then saw some other post that has made me think he won't have to do the phasing up.  I know he's not going through all the pre-school stuff if that makes sense.  He is excited about getting there!  Let's hope he gets there and does great.  and loves it!!!

Oh, alot of the moms were talking about how hard the school was there, and some of the things they study.  Michael should do great there!!  He knows alot of stuff about computers and has done alot of what he will be doing, so that makes me feel better to.  Plus, I think he will feel better about himself--see himself as a leader there. I think this will be great for him!

anyway, as I said, the other groups are just not active as this one, and don't have opinions or advice.  Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Connie foaling-lady, my brother in law was diagnosed with testicular cancer in his 20's. He had actually grown some breast and had a breast reduction.  Shortly after, since they were having trouble conceiving a child, he was tested and found severely low sperm count and upon investigation, they discovered his cancer. Apparently, when you have testicular cancer, it reduces your sperm count in both testicles. That was also the cause of the breast growth. After the removal of the cancerous testicle, they got pregnant within 3 months. That was 19 years ago.

Serious topic here: my husband's nephew, just 30, had testicular cancer 2 years ago ... major surgery to remove all tumors in abdomen and groin ... today found another tumor in his abdomen. PLEASE urge your sons and husbands to check themselves. I know it's awkward, but early detection can save their lives. American Cancer Society website has a how-to. My dad also had testicular cancer, in his late 30s, and apparently nowdays there has been an increase in the number of young men diagnosed. Young, meaning guys in their 20s. This is one thing we NEED to nag our guys about.

Mary, your son reminds me of one of my son's friends.  Wore shorts year-round, even in the winter.  Rode his bike everywhere, too.  Always made me cold looking at those bare legs when it was cold outside.  Brrrr.

At least the winters in NY won't be too different from Michigan winters, so my son should adjust just fine.  Or should I say re-adjust.  He only experienced about two weeks of Michigan winter last year.

Oh, bobbysproudmom, love the Christmas story.  That's one of those stories you want to share for years and years.

Comment by bobbysproudmom on September 16, 2011 at 6:07pm

Emily-sooo funny--we also take vent

Mary -that's hilarious about the help..

Every year at Christmas my hubby would make comments that because of a lack of money there may not be any Christmas. One of my daughters(at the time she was about 7 or 8) wrote a letter to Santa--must have said something interesting--normally I would take their letters to Santa out of the mailbox and read/keep them--this time I forgot before I left for work....A few days before Christmas I get a phone call, Caller wanted to know if that DTR was at home. The Lady says "I have a delivery for her and just wanted to make sure she's at home."   The lady brought---a gift for each of the six of us and the fixins for a complete turkey dinner!  This lady, bless her heart, worked at the post office and would read each letter sent to santa looking for "situations" where help is needed.

DTR is still embarassed by that story! The rest of us love it!

Emily, that is what my SIL did.  After he got out of the navy he went to school and got a degree in nuclear engineering, which just happened to be what my daughter was studying.  They got married, they both have double master's degrees, and are working in NY.  I hope my sailor wants to further his education after the navy but part of the reason he went into the navy was b/c he didn't want to go to college.  Maybe maturity will change his mind.  ;^)

Dor- It sure would be nice if he got orders that early! I guess I'm pessimistic on this one-- I've just heard so many stories about getting orders days before graduation (or after). He said this morning that he has less than 60 signatures to go! He won't be finishing super early, but that's okay. Prototype has been such a struggle for him, so the important thing is that he just finishes. :)

I was really happy to hear this morning that he actually has a plan for the future. He's going to finish off his B.S. in Nuclear Technology and then use his GI bill for his masters/something that he WANTS to get his education in. He's always so wishy washy about what he wants to do after, so it was so nice to hear that he actually has a plan. And a sensible one at that. :)

Welcome, GnVA! :)
