First week of A School down - my sailor sounds beat and a bit depressed. He is not a fan of studying, and they have been putting in some long hours this week. Dose of reality. We skyped a couple of times after study period this week; he announced at one point that he probably won't reinlist; he also is now talking about coming home for a visit after A School grad, which is a change from just a week ago. He's lonely and homesick; I told him things would get better. Hope I didn't just lie to him.

Mary - a good basket is already in the mail.  Should arrive next week.  I have sent him some Facebook posts and an email, but a card may be a good idea.  He did say that they had a muddy football game this afternoon.  His team won and he scored two touchdowns.  That always makes him feel better.

I haven't found any "spectacular" rates for Southwest for Charleston yet... I've been looking for spring break and they're all the same as United...

And Cindy if you're looking for the technical "base name" it's now called Joint Base Charleston. They joined forces with the Air Force to create "one base" :)

Hi All, Regarding Southwest Airlines...you can only buy their airfare at their website. I've signed up for their emails when they have their specials. If you buy during one of their "specials", as long as you purchase the tickets at least 14 days in advance, you can get some pretty good rates (i.e. $99 one way). I fly them from St Louis to Omaha when I have to be in Omaha for school.

I finally got a call from my sailor today.  It had been very quiet from his end since classes started back up on Monday.  He has had a rough week back.  He is in A School and hasn't made it out of Phase 1 yet.  He didn't do as well as he would like on his final Math test, didn't pass his PFA run by 10 seconds because they were running in the rain and he kept having to pull up his wet sweatpants to keep them from falling off, and he overslept and was late one morning.

LOL I got on Expedia.com as soon as I posted this because I hadn't thought they wouldn't. But finding flights for family to go to PIR I am finding Southwest doesn't fly out of everywhere. Thanks. My daughter goes to Iowa State in Ames so we go through Des Moines a lot!!!
Comment by NukeMom(CVN-75) on January 7, 2011 at 7:15pm
Mary-where in Iowa are you living? I live in Glenwood IA. I haven't even checked yet to see if Southwest flies out of Omaha into Charleston yet. I pray they do!
