Kris, Go to "Molly's Adopt A Sailor" group and leave a message. Molly always has sailors that could use a little mom TLC!

Jeanne - wonder if our sons were seperated at birth, during BC I wrote is there anyone who needs letters from home/mail, etc - he said no not that I know of (I sent extras anyway and told him to pass them out) at PIR and also when I visited in May I said anyone need hugs/acknowledgement/reinforcement he said no dont do it mom.....

To any moms - where can I get information about writing to service members and or especially letters to people at bootcamp who dont get any? I teach Sunday School and it would be a good service activity. thanks

The truth - being a mom who knows her kid is not perfect, tends to embelish and usually tells me what he thinks I want to hear I intuitively know the scoop on what he does and doesnt tell me. If it were me I wouldve bought the stuff too to have it handy :) I'd rather have had him buy cleaning supplies than electronics.

-how can sailors be failing their PT tests, dont they have PT a couple times week?

Oh, Mrs. Andy. I have goosebumps and a huge silly grin on my face. Thanks for sharing :)

Sailorsmom- This is a great place to vent. The majority of us love to listen and support and give any information that we can. And Jeanne is right about the mailroom... Sometimes it doesn't take long, but it's not always the fastest.

Mrs. Andy- The hug story made me smile. Thanks! :)

Congrats. to this week's "A" School grads. & new Petty Officers. Headed to GC for Friday's graduation. Any tips on what to see / do in and around Charleston for the day or two we'll be in town?

wow, it must be weepy day! That story got me. I've made a point to thank service members for years and my kids have seen it many times. When my sailor was in THU before heading to GC he and some buddies went to the mall. He told me that a lady walked up, thanked them and gave each a hug. He said, "Mom, I've seen you thank men and women in uniform for as long as I can remember. Now I know what it feels like to be thanked and it feels awesome!" Excuse me while I get a kleenex!!

I was at McDs the other day with my grandson and there was a young man in his army camo eating lunch and I told my grandson to say 'hi, Mr. Soldier', and then I started getting weepy when I thanked him for his service.

guess that's just part of being a mom of a sailor.

Kris,
All of those things your son bought are available to him. It is obviously more convenient for him to have them in his room though. That is a good thing that he didn't buy a TV, electronics, etc. Tell him to exercise and read. We have WAY too many students who are unable to pass the physical fitness assessments because they sit on their butt in front of a computer/TV. If they don't pass the PT tests, they don't get their bonuses, don't advance, don't graduate.

Okay, you guys quit it!! My sailor left last Friday, so this is my "weepy week"! I was doing okay today UNTIL I started reading here!!!!!
