Casey- I've always heard two years, too. It counts as the STAR reenlistment, if I'm right?

Regarding staff pickup, split tours and everything else along those lines I only have one piece of advice. Don't.

The only exception to this is if you have a REALLY good reason.
Well, what is a good reason you may ask?
You have most of a college degree completed and you want to finish it to put in for OCS. You want to get picked up STA-21 for the nuclear program so you have to finish an instructor staff tour or stay in the pipeline since you don't want to wait 4 years to get back again. You went to mast at your current command and you can't get a fair shake there but you can't transfer to shore duty because of the mast. Your limited because there are too many guys senior to you for you to get the LPO/WCS slot you really need to advance. Important stuff that will affect your career (yes, career because these decisions generally involve a reenlistment).

I say this because I've done it. When you transfer to a new command they don't know you from anyone else and you have to prove yourself all over again from scratch until you are qualified a supervisory (higher then senior in rate) watch station at a sea going command (EWS/PPWS). Enjoy being the non-useful body for as long as you don't follow this advice, took my first 4 years in the Navy to learn this lesson.

Just got a phone call from my son (who is at the beginning of A school) and it was even better than a boot camp call cuz he talked a lot. He misses home, the people, the mtns, but does his best. It was so wonderful to be able to communicate because I've learned so much from you fantastic people. THANK YOU !!

Pat. we recently moved and are now in Imlay City. It is northwest of Detroit and East of Grand Rapids. I had an aunt and uncle that lived in Grand Rapids, well Caldonia and we used to visit all the time. They lived on Thorn Apple River Drive and Alaska was right up the road. I have wonderful memories of spending time at their house and we would always make turtle soup. The guys went to the river to find the turtle and we kids would watch them cut the head off and my uncle made the soup. It was wonderful!! That uncle was in the Navy back in the day, he has a "lady" tattooed on his chest and he would make her move. We kids always made him show us and we would laugh and laugh!!! It was fun up there. Sorry, the memories came flooding back,as they are both gone now.
