Just to clarify - my son actually did not complain at all.  He didn't say anything - just shared the photo.  Other than the pic, he hasn't sent anything more - either positive or negative.  I am very supportive, encouraging and thankful. Just as NNLori commented, I think seeing it bothered me more than it does him.

I truly appreciate all of you and Love being a part of this group!  Your support and comaraderie is a blessing.  Prayers, prayers and more prayers as this storm takes place.

What I am saying is voicing your concerns on here is one thing.  However, it seems that some are feeding into the sailors not liking the conditions of the place they are in.  I understand parents wanting "comfort".  However, they joined the NAVY so pls understand they gave that up when they signed on the dotted line.  The navy isn't "comfortable".  Once school is over they will be in some places you wont like.  So evacuation is just the beginning of some of their experiences.  Its the rough truth.  Pls offer them encouragement and strength as they go through some of these kind of things.

I think it's ok for us to voice our concerns here. It's our safe supportive place to speak our mind. I don't think anyone is complaining. I'm sure the Navy is doing the best they can considering the circumstances. We are Mom's and we want our kids to be comfortable and happy. We all know they won't be that all the time especially in the military but it's definitely a Mom thing to want them to be comfortable. It's a difficult situations and our Sailors will step up and deal with what they have to. I'm sure it all bothers us more than it bothers them. I do wish they had taken them a smidge further away though lol!! Seems like they are still going to experience lots of wind and rain and maybe flooding there in Columbia. I guess time will tell. Happy Hurrication everyone!!

I have been reading the comments about the sailors evac to old quarters and the conditions not being nice. PLEASE stop complaining! They are safe were they are. They have been taught to clean if they need to. They can put themselves to task and clean the environment and have things to do. Its not home for sure but they are safe! Pls mommas, when your sailors is negative.... you be positive! They need to hear our support for sure! We raised them to be strong and this is the least they will be facing in their careers. Be strong for them PLS....

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

I'm happy to hear that everyone seems to have been evacuated safely and I'm sorry to hear that the accommodations are lacking :(  But I'm sure it was difficult for them to find rooms for everyone - Thank goodness it's only temporary.  And it's preparing them for deployment!

Comment by Havasu on September 12, 2018 at 11:17pm

My son also said things were fine where he was. He enjoyed the MREs as well, and actually said that the beds, bathrooms and showers were better there. He said the Army guys were really kind and helpful. Like Chipmunk said, maybe they can work together to help make it better in the areas that are in worse condition. I hope so; I'm sorry for the worry for the conditions of the buildings your Nukes are in. He did say he was thankful to be there and not in GC when the storm hits.

Comment by NavymomMarie on September 12, 2018 at 10:34pm

So sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's temporary and they will be placed in a secure building to ride out the storm.

Comment by NavymomMarie on September 12, 2018 at 10:32pm

Hi, I spoke with my son earlier and he said it was ok. It just took a while to get settled. They had MRE's for dinner, chicken alfredo, he liked it. He's on the 3rd floor in a concrete building, with about 30/40 other sailors, a mix of MM's and ET's. They sounded like they were having a good time.

Comment by pandalvr on September 12, 2018 at 10:29pm

My son wants to pay for a hotel too. No matter what, those conditions are deplorable and no one should be subjected to it. Especially no water. He also stated on a few workingights and bearly has a/c. The storms hasnt even begun, what about the rain and wind they wont have protection for themself or belongings. Could this just be for tonight??

Comment by Chipmunk on September 12, 2018 at 10:20pm

I don't recall there being these sorts of conditions when my son was there last year. But I still know he was glad to have had an original different place to stay and had even had a motel booked for in route - thankfully, he was able to cancel it yesterday without penalties when they changed the orders for his PS class.

Last year my son was very concerned about going to Ft. Jackson because other sailors had told him that they ran out of food. I forgot to remind him to take snacks with him. And as I told him last year, this is just good training for being out in the fleet, but those pictures are not pleasant for sure. Sounds like our sailors need to have a couple of work days fixing things up there!
