OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

The sea is not like your bath tub, as the sea is much much larger than even a very big bath tub. After all, there is lightning hitting some part of the oceans some place, some where, every minute of every day, isn't there? If it were just like dropping a radio into a bath tub, then people playing in the ocean at Virginia Beach would be shocked to death whenever lightning struck the water off the coast of South Africa. But we know that doesn't happen. Water has resistance. Salt water has a lower resistance than drinking water, but it does have some resistance. That resistance is cumulative per unit of volume of water. As the distance grows from the strike point to the observer, the amount of energy observable is less.

Resistance is not the major determination whether the one feels it, it is dependant on the voltage and current in that strike (changed by how far electricity has to travel, humidity, size of clouds, etc.). To see why, look at how lightning works: friction, among other things, releases negative electrons in the sky. In a storm this charge of electrons that have no place to go become attracted to the positive charged earth and take that leap. They hit the water and spread. Everything that has room takes an electron (ionizes) and the charge dissipates. My speculation is that after 100 feet or so you probably wouldn't feel it too much. Is someone going to jump in the water during a storm? It isn't recommended.

My Sailor Son just arrived at the airport in Charleston and is waiting for other new Sailors to arrive there so they can be transported to the base. This PIR weekend has been a whirlwind in the most wonderful way!
I am really looking forward to this next part of the Navy experience and getting to know you all as I embark on the A School journey.

Comment by Sherri_M on August 6, 2011 at 11:26pm: hey all...fianlly back..what a week. I didn't even try to go back and read everything I've missed this week. I have my chapter 2 finally wrote. I will type it tomorrow, then let it sit till Monday night, I think I may acutally take Tuesday off and double check it yet again and send it off to my advisor. I'm hoping I don't have to do a complete rewrtite. I'm expecting some mistakes, but hopefully, not too many.

Oh, Sarah and Michael are getting married not the upcoming week, but the week after. Sarah is flying down there. Wish we could go, but it'll just be the two of them and then they will have a wedding later. She can't stay with him until he gets to his next station. We have no idea how long that will be, still waiting on clearance. He is talking with them and they have told him he is going to Pensacola for his new A school. He's looking forward to getting there and getting started. Ready to move on in his career. Please pray for them, and especially Sarah. She is working for me at my work--department store. I do HR there and technically she can't work for me unless we get it approved through the divisional HR. Since she already works there, it would be no big deal to get it approved by them, but my boss (the manager of the store) is being a huge you know what about it, and said he'd fire her if he finds out she gets married. After they get married, it will probably only be a few months tops....

I do have family visiting this week. :) My sister is in town from Missouri with my niece and nephew. The things that come out of that 3 year old's mouth are HILARIOUS. She got to ride our cousin's horses tonight. She got on the pony and yelled: "Giddy up, Bullseye!" Toy Story is her favorite movie. :)
