Hi Maddie - your son should listen more to Dad. That is not the way it works. As far as nuc billets go, the job is pretty much the same whether you're on an SSBN, SSGN, newer SSN, or older SSN etc... The top of the class will generally get close to what they ask for, if a spot is available - they want to reward guys for top efforts, because they want them to stay in. San Diego is tough to get, because there are only four boats homeported there, with a fifth coming soon. Couple that with the desirability of San Diego lifestyle-wise, there is a lot of competition for the limited number of spots. Frankly, what your son is saying sounds like a rather lame attempt to justify mediocrity; no wonder Dad is adamant...

The Navy always gets the their way, however I heard that after prototype if you were in the top, you probably would get your chose? I hope that is true. Than why bust your butt?

Happy B-day Charlotte. Glad you had a great day.

Interesting tidbit from the boy:  If you do very well, the navy takes a special interest and you're assigned to where they can use your skills the most.  If you're at the bottom, you become a filler and will go to wherever there's an opening. But if you're average, you actually get your choice of assignment.  This debate went on for a good half hour between father and son, neither one backing down.  Father wants son to do his best; son wants to eventually get assigned to San Diego (therefore, shooting for "average").  Son was adamant that this was what they are being told at GC.

Has anyone heard of this???

happy birthday, Charlotte!  and happy Father's day to all the Navy Dads out there.  ckwinn, is your son MM/EM or ET?  MMs seem to start A school pretty quickly, but it seems like our EMs/ETs are having to wait almost a month to start class.  Don't worry, if he has a month to wait, they'll keep him busy on base doing chores of some sort. He'll learn some new AWESOME skills...like sanding the bleachers!

ckwinn- They tend to start a new A school class every other week. But lately it seems like the guys are on hold for awhile. Aaron was only in Indoc for about a week, but some of the guys don't start A school for about a month. The new ladies here can fill you in on that. :)

As far as Power School grad. goes. That's crazy that they checked every single ID! It's probably because they are on heightened security... For Aaron's graduation we just drove right through the gate... they didn't even ask us if we were there for the graduation. Didn't even check our name off the list!!
