Diana my boyfriend was in a similar situation a few weeks back. he didn't get sent to mast, but he could have. it was a misunderstanding that got blown out of proportion and his only consequence was that he dropped phases. he got VERY lucky and fully realized that and has minded his P's and Q's since then.

BTW everyone, I changed my name on here, so it's not confusing, since today is MOVING DAY!!! I am no longer SC_bound as I will finally be in South Carolina by this evening and hopefully settled by tomorrow! Packing the last few days has not been fun and i am dredding the unpacking tomorrow

I'll kind of repeat what Dan's mom said:  my son has mentioned that at least a few Master Chiefs (not sure how many) have been through a mast.  Hoping that this will prove to be a positive learning experience for your son, Diana.

Thanks for in the information Emily.  After work today I'll have to do some reading on the subject.  I just got his letter yesterday telling me what his rating is.

Jo1- Check out the discussion above: Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival to Goose Creek.
I learn something new everytime I look back at it.. and my sailor has been doing this for a year and a half!
Aaron is an EM, also. Here's what the paper had to say: Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and control of all the electrical power systems associated with the Reactor. Stands moving and stationary watches mointoring the various Electrical Distribution systems.
As the guys say: They "flip switches"

I also found this for all those moms who are wondering what the "needs of the Navy" are. It said this directly on the file that's in the discussion I mentioned to Jo1. "Needs of the Navy: 50% MMs, 30% EMs, and 20% ETs"
It says rate is determined by "Personal Choice, Test Scores, and the Needs of the Navy"

Praying for your heavy hearts, ladies. Thanks, Dan's mom, for that word of encouragement. Praying for all our sailors, and their loving mommas.

Our children that are the most challenging, usually have more of our hearts than those that tow the line... why? Because we "think" they need us more to help rescue "them". My Sailor is the one of three and he has never caused me worry or concern when growing up. Now it will possibly change when he deploys down the road, so for now with him in A school... Momma is doing okay. Hang in there Moms, it's so hard to watch them grow up and "let" their consequences happen to them. We can only be there to hold them if they want to be held.

Jo1... go to www.Navy.mil and see what it tells about the EM, very informative.

Labmom,

My son flew home last year for the 4th (he asked and got permission to travel the distance South Carolina to Northern Calif.) He tried to surprise me for my birthday but I found out and met him at the airport to surprise him. He was in power school at the time. He flew home on the 1st (a thurs.)and flew back on the 4th very early(a sunday). The 4th will be a 4 day weekend or at least has been in past years.

Diana, Hoping for the best for your son, don't know the situation but lots of masts are 'scare the ** out of them and hope they straighten out'. Unless it's very bad to start out with they usually get a second chance. Mostly depends on how they act at the mast. At least that's what my sailor is telling me (he's home for his 30 days leave after proto grad). Good luck and prayers for you both.

Labmom, glad you are here with us.  We forget that there are female Nukes too.  Sure wish you could get to Goose Creek to visit your daughter.  It really does help once you get a visual on their new surroundings. Do you get a chance to Skype with her at all so you can at least see her face now and then?
