My son's first choice was EM and 2nd was MM - he is now MM in A-school and graduating this Friday.  It's difficult but if they spend time studying they will get through.  Even the ones that are on "vols" (voluntary study hours) spend time every day over in the study rooms - that's how they stay at the top and even with that, they work HARD to stay at the top!!

My son order some shoes online and had them sent to him at A school, he loves them, he also has purchased a bicycle, a tv/monitor, and a DS3... now that classes have started, he doesn't have time to do much but study.  Classes are very detailed, he told his Dad that they have given a semester's worth of information in 3 weeks so far and you really do have to study 2 or more hours per day to keep up. When he was in BC they do all kinds of testing on the SRs and the counselors will help the SRs choose the rate that they are suited to. We thought our Sailor would be EM, but the testing showed he was more suited for ET (I guess all that computer game playing put him into this category). He is really happy now that some Dungeon & Dragon games have begun with this class!

Jo1...My children's father managed two high end running stores in our area  and he always told people shoes that are run in daily never last more than six weeks.  THey may look fine but they are all broken down inside and should be worn as bedroom slippers from that time on.  Our children always wore good shoes for their athletic endeavors so when my son wore those bad running shoes in Great Lakes he could not wait to replace them.

On the boxers- Aaron had to wear his whitetideys for awhile during A school because the Nex was constantly out of medium size white boxers. I would imagine that that's one of the first things the guys buy when they get there... Well, besides a new phone/video game system/tv/video games, etc. :)

I just thought I'd give you my input on the feet problem and running.  My teenage daughter runs track and cross country so she does a lot of running like our sailors are required to do.  She wears out a pair of $100.00 Asics  every 4 weeks.  They don't look worn out but they are.  We also have to get her inserts from a podiatrist and take out the ones in the shoes.  She had a lot of foot and ankle problems in her younger years until we realized what the problem was.  It costs a lot of money but it has prevented injuries.

my son said he also wanted his boxers -- so I went on the hunt for white ones so he could wear them under his dress whites.

Kat- Why does your son sound exactly like me? I had inserts made for my feet. My feet are really flat so my ankles turn in all the time... It's kind of hard to explain without showing. :P But we went to the chiropractor and he put my feet in some molds and sent them off to get inserts done. They were a little expensive and I'm not sure how tricare would cover it... But they did work wonders (when I wore them). They straightened out problems with my ankles, knees, and back. :) He may want to try some doctor scholl's inserts before he would have some custom made though.

yes on the running shoes. My son waited and bought new ones when he was home at Christmas, so only had about 4 or 5 weeks in GC with the icky ones.  Now, because of his flat feet, he is going ot have to get a specially made pair.  I'm hoping the Navy will cover that.

Yes, on his own underware too. And definately some civilian clothes to wear in his room.

Also, we got him a nice hot/cold travel cup for Christmas and he loved that.  Said it was much better than the $2 one he bought at the NEX.

We shopped for underwear right after PIR at the Target in GL. LOL! I've been sending him packages (mostly meal replacement items for the days he just won't feel like going out of his room) this past week; I will have to ship his shoes next, it sounds like.
