TN Navy mom, my son graduates 6/17 as well! So far for him, everything has been just as promised, but now that I have said that it probably won't happen that way. I am going to try to prepared.......

MichPad - whenever my family members ask about my son coming home, or graduating or whatever, I always say "the plan is" or "as it stands now" because we have had to learn to be flexible.  Military calendars and clocks are set differently than civilian ones.  I plan to go to my sailor Power School graduation which "as it stands now" is to be 6/17.  Tentatively plan to fly into Charleston 6/14. BUT this being the Navy, we work on their schedule so I am ready to change my plans.  Point being, be as flexible as possible with dates.

Sharon and TN Navy Mom--I thank you all for your information!!  It's been an overwhelming few days.  To think that a week ago I was sky high hugging my sailor after graduation, and today I am making plans for a wedding in SC in 2 short months.  Didn't see that coming!!  My concern right now is his permission to marry.  He told me his Petty Officer told him that it "shouldn't" be a problem to get married that weekend if his GPA is good.  SHOULDN"T??  Agh!  Considering we/he was told that he left for SC on Tues and would have weekend Liberty at GL, to only have it snatched out from under us when he left early Sat morning, I am a little leary of the "shouldn't".  We are coming from WA state, so no small task for a family of four to accomplish and afford.  I would hate for the Navy to have given him false hope and then mess it all up.  I know that's in their perogative though!  Just trying not to freak out and be positive for him, but it's difficult.

Our PIR group was a huge help to me, and I am so glad to have you ladies here who have the experience.

Thanks again!

MichPad - adding my welcome!!  My sailor got married exactly 1 month before leaving for bootcamp.  I spent the entire month of December surrounded by tulle, ribbon, etc. (my DIL mom is deceased so I got to be mother of the bride AND the groom) and became the "Queen of the List".  All of their paperwork was done before he left for bootcamp so I can't help with what kind of permission might be required while in A school.

BUT, I can tell you that new sailors to A school who are bachelors are phased up differently than married guys.  They just refer to the married sailors as "Phase Married". They can drive back and forth to base and to handle "essential" houselhold business.  They are still phased up as far as distance they can travel from base on their off hours and the wearing of uniforms, except that once they get "home" they are not required to wear their uniforms.

My son and DIL are in "renovated" housing on Jefferson Ave.  Not exactly state of the art renovations but quite comfortable for them.  They have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a screened in porch and a carport.  It is very convenient and only takes my son about 5 minutes to get to base.  They LOVE the Charleston area and have made several good friends in other couples in Nuke school.

I won't say it's been easy for my DIL because of class time, study hours, T track, watch standing, and other duties and she's spent a lot of time alone and he's spent a lot of time stressed out but I do believe it's been good for both of them.

Best of luck, welcome aboard.  These are the best bunch of people in the world when you want to vent, brag, or ask questions.

@MIchPad, there is a wealth of information with this group. Whether they are from the "mom" or "grilfriend" standpoint. It is all good stuff!! Emily does an awesome job and she is very informed on many things. Our son and his girlfriend got married when he was home over Christmas break. They decided to get married in October and Kelsey and I planned the entire wedding in a short seven weeks and it was just beautiful!! Church wedding and a great evening reception on a Wednedsday night. They met with our Pastor the day after the wedding so they could fax all the neccesary information to the base so they could get housing. They did NOT get NEW or renovated housing, they have an old house with old in it! They did not have a choice, they had to take what was given to them. They are bummed, but they have a place of their own and are making it work for them. There wasn't a list at all when they called for housing, they were given one within an hour of having all the paperwork in. It shouldn't be a problem at all for them to obtain housing after they get married. Good luck and welcome aboard!!!!

Dor, I am glad we can be here for you.  I know the Air Force is different, but the military is the military.  Keep us up to date on what is happening.
