Hi Velvetenor, good to hear from you again. My son will be down there in a couple of weeks. I heard they start a new program every other month so I am thinking he will have a good month in INDOC too. So it is nice to know it is more relaxed part of the Navy before school starts and they have to buckle down . Keep us posted on what is happening if you can. I know how busy life gets.

God Bless!

Hi everyone! Just checking in and catching up on all the posts I missed - some great questions and discussions! :)

Last night we had FaceTime with my son and he is really enjoying the down time that he is having in INDOC as he waits to class up for A school. He did his "briefs" for the first week of INDOC, and last week he was "cleaning" which he literally put in "air quotes" because he said that it is obviously just busy work as they keep cleaning the same barracks over and over again so there is no time for them to even get dirty! LOL! But he has evenings and weekends free and he is hanging out with friends, playing video games, going to the gym, and going into Charleston on Saturdays. A far cry from BC, for sure! He is getting his UIs done, too, before he classes up for ET, which should be the first week of March.

It is so great to be able to text and FaceTime with him, and he looks and sounds so good! I know the stress will start again when classes start, but I am feeling truly calm, happy, and blessed this week for the first time in a while! Hugs to you all! :)

Pat - to my knowledge, with Prototype, they can be on varying schedules as to when they are testing. But there are one or two "mid-term" exams as I recall that they are expected to take and pass well enough to show that they are on track for finishing on time. I think my son said they were told to focus on more of one or two named subjects because those were on the test, along with the other things they were studying.

Can anyone tell me when COMPS are for Prototype? My daughter has 6 weeks left but I thought I heard something about COMPS at the end of this month. Is that possible?

thesuperm72 - I totally understand your concerns. Not sure how you know she is going to Airbnb's, but you might want to do what you can to open communication channels without antagonizing. I have to be honest, my first thought was she has a boyfriend and they are spending the weekend away from watchful eyes. I know I am taking the negative thought instead of think the best, but you asked. They have the weekends off, yes, but there are curfews and protocols. I don't know if I mentioned those in my information about A school or not, but they are expected to be studying at least on Sunday afternoon, and more if they are behind.

I just know in the four trips I made to GC, it was not uncommon for us to see "couples" coming and going from the nearby motel. And no, my son, stuck pretty close to NNPTC during A school.

Rime unfortunately it can be common. Your Nuke will need to push the issue. I'm speaking from experience.

I have a question for Navy mom's who's kids are already serving on ships(subs). Our sailor has been trying to get in to have his infected toe seen for over two months (Ingrown nail). It's a bit frustrating for us, the one in charge of getting him an appt has just kept telling him to wait..... Is this normal?

Thank you for all your input. I read comments often, think I'll respond, but fail to actually sign in to do so. We're still working full time plus taking care of our youngest granddaughter while her parents work....fun but exhausting.

Husband's a pastor, I work with special needs. We're almost at 40 years of wedded bliss. Youngest is our sailor, next up is a detective, and middle child went Marine, now working with gov as a base guard. Oldest two have civilian jobs, manager and hardware clerk. They're awesome kids, if I do say so myself!

Thank you so much, Chipmunk

thesuperm72, I'm not sure about whether that is normal. My son didn't do anything like that, and I don't recall him saying that anyone else did either, but he mostly hung out with his classmates. Maybe someone has opened her up to the idea of getting out and away from her quarters and roommate and just getting some peace and quiet? When mine was in A School (as an MMN), he spent a lot of his weekends studying at the Rickover.

Comment by Navymom18 on February 15, 2020 at 2:14pm

thesuperm72 - I would say completely normal. A school is really stressful and the weekends are the only time they can let their guard down and breathe a little.  It's healthy for them to have a release! Good luck to your sailor!
