Probably a good idea to look into renters insurance.  B had his policy through USAA (still does).

NukemomofC, so sorry to hear this. Hopefully things will get worked out for him. It has me concerned now about the son's stuff wondering if we should have gotten a little insurance policy. Never really thought about it until now, figured things were safe in the barracks. Hope everything gets better for him.

Oh no NukemomofC, that is horrible.  I'm hoping they will help him to replace the damaged items.  Not the added stress he needs right now :(

Velvetenor, I found the Nuke Indoc package that was sent to me when my son started EM "A" school last June and it states that ET and EM are approximately 26 weeks.  This is after they class up so some may not start right away and it will add to this time. I don't think the info in the packet has changed since I received it but it might. I received this package the week he showed up to Goose Creek so if your son/daughter are just getting there keep a look out for the info.                                                                                            

My son's graduation was delayed a week due to the hurricane evacuation so if your son/daughter are expected to graduate in the fall or early winter, just be flexible as it could shift due to the weather. Hopefully they won't have that issue this year but you never know.

NukemomofC - I am sooo Sorry to hear this!! Yes, I am sure that your Momma heart is hurting for your son. I believe they talk to them about insurance, but that doesn't always happen. I know my son was concerned about things during the hurricanes. That must have been a lot of water to ruin so much or his stuff was on the floor, which is understandable, considering they don't have a lot of storage in their BEQ. 

Velvetenor - When you have more than one child, you are always faced with the potential for conflicts with regards to your child's momentous events. Even with just one child, other family issues may conflict. I hope it works out for you to be able to deal with both things. 

As for the details, no apology needed. I usually am the one to find mistakes in things and those that don't know me, take it as nit picking but I am just trying to clarify, usually and I want accuracy. So, I get it!!

Hi all, thanks for your responses!

Yes, my son is in INDOC now, but he was told to expect to class up on March 9th, so I did do some counting of weeks after that point and realized that 26 weeks would make his graduation the Friday before Labor Day, and the same day my daughter has to be dropped off at college. I totally get Semper Gumby - and we will wait for the official info before making any travel arrangements, but I also wanted to be mentally prepared if we were not going to be able to go to his A school graduation due to this conflict.

I will also say that I have a bit of a "talent" (curse?) for finding inconsistencies in documents. I am a former cancer researcher turned medical writer, so my mind is trained to look for data errors and inconsistencies in everything I read - and I read everything! LOL!

For my son the current proposed graduation date is 26 Fridays following the Monday he started.  But..... Thanksgiving and the Christmas/Holidays shutdown are in there.   I am betting if a class time line will not have November and December in there it is closer to 24 weeks.  Hope this makes sense.

Velvetenor - well that is a good question!  And you are right. The latest page I posted does say 26 weeks whereas the others show 24.....Hmmmmmm......I think like Chipmunk says it is an approximation but the school is actually for a set # of weeks.  Flexibility is the key here.....of course this doesn't help you with your plans lol.

Velvetenor - the information you reference, is I believe a copy of the packet that is now being mailed out from NNPTC, which Baker1013 refered to.  Approximate is the key word here. Training / class time may be 24 weeks of class hours, but holidays, weather and such can interfere in how many weeks that actually entails. And yes, if your sailor is INDOC, you will need to start counting from when your sailor actually "classes up". Honestly, until he has a class up date, your sailor most likely will not have a graduation date. But once your sailor starts classes, you should be able to start pressing for a "scheduled" grad date. Then and only then would I start deciding whether or not I could attend graduation. - Semper Gumby!! 

We have paid higher prices on tickets or waited on motel reservations, because I preferred to know for sure instead of plan too far ahead and have to cancel. Even then I have had last minute changes that cost me. All this coming from the mom that all activities were coordinated through for five kids and you had to tell me 1-2 months in advance - it has been a big change!
