Morning all! I've got my RED on! My sailor sold his car, personally shipped his motorcycle, rented an SUV and is officially on the road to Wisconsin! We are about 11.5 hours from boots in da house!!!

P.S. I kind of feel a little melancholy about his schooling being over. Keep wondering if he will ever make it back to GC.

He will be home for a month and then it is on to Kitsap! Thanks again for all the advice and support ladies!

Skippyredhead - Thinking about you and the kids. I am sure you are busy navigating your move to GC, but I just wanted you to know I was thinking about you.

Islandgirl - I had actually missed your updated post and was just saying hi earlier. I am glad to know that your daughter's spirits have been lifted and we will continue to pray for her. Most important thing for her to remember is to be truthful!!!  My son was INDOC for a month before classing up and they heard stories from other sailors about how important truthfulness, honesty, and integrity are to the Navy, but especially in the Nuke program. Things like smoking, underage drinking, stuff that my husband said was allowed when he was in the Army in Basic Training even is no longer tolerated. I don't know what her specific situation is, but I am also sharing for others that are new to this. It took me a little bit to realize that one of the reasons my son stayed pretty close to NNPTC was because he was under 21 he did not want to be with anyone that could drink and there be an "appearance" of evil, nor did he want to have to be the one to nark on another sailor. All things that are expected of them.  Once I realized this, I quite bugging him about getting out and doing things with others. He was happy to stay at NNPTC, or ride his bike. Saturday morning Skypes with his brother and the two of them playing games online, meant I knew where he was at also.

Welcome to our new members!! Feel free to join in our conversations, read along, introduce yourselves.

Islandgirl - Thinking of you and your daughter.

I have been busy with numerous other things but big news with my son's ship USS Ford - they have aircraft!!! Yea! I need to catch up on all the news with that. My sailor had another qualification test he had to take and I am waiting to hear from him as to whether or not he passed.

For those new to the pipeline - once your sailor is out in the fleet they will continue to have about two years of training, before they are senior qualified, at least per why I have understood from my sailor,

SubMom - Interesting on what your son was told about GC. Also, that he had inquired about RDC as well.  All I know is that they keep trying to get my son to do star reenlist, but he wanted to be out on a deployment at least once before making that decision or not. And it may be awhile before his ship gets to that point, but they are out training.

I will say the more I understand about how much training, time, and money goes into our Nukes and those as Reactor Operators, and then for them to have the turnovers like they do, when they just barely have them senior qualified, it makes a lot more sense to me why they push for them to add two extra years. I just am not sure that my son is willing to do that though. When we said good bye to the grandbaby at Christms, his niece, he commented "the next time I see her she may be three years old" - then it hit me and the sacrifices they make. The sacrifice my youngest made to only see his brother for 2 days of his leave, so that he didn't expose big brother to the flu and keep him from seeing his niece.

Lots to consider.
