For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

We will be celebrating the day here with one of our daughters and her in-laws. The other married daughter is unable to travel due to her pregnancy. This weekend we will travel and spend time with my MIL, a nice quiet time away. I believe my sailor has been invited to dinner by one of his shipmates which is very kind.

JayDee659 - I am sorry your Thanksgiving plans had to change! Semper Gumby for sure.

When I called my son at GC, I usually had a question to ask (not necessarily about his work) or something to share with him of what was going on in our family. This always allowed for other conversation to transpire. I do not think it is unreasonable to call any of my children at least once a week and just let them know how much I love them, appreciate them and keep up with their interests. I actually learned from something in my own family, that if I want to talk to my sons, I call them and don't wait for them to call me. I stay a much happier mother that way.

Comment by Chipmunk on November 27, 2019 at 10:35pm: Ksailmom - Most of the ladies on here will tell you that they don't hear from their sailors (especially sons) that often. Mine knows I like the details so he has always been more willing to talk, but I would often take the initiative to call.

Friday after 1600 (4:00 pm) is good and usually Saturday morning, or all day, and even Sunday AM is a good possibility for reaching your sailor.

Keep in mind this is a learning curve for both of you and figuring out what works best on the communication and time is all a part of it.

Not sure exactly where my son is having his Thanksgiving meal but someone from the ship invited him. !! That always warms a mother's heart.

Comment by Chipmunk on November 27, 2019 at 8:08pm: BamaMom10 - I concur with SubMom - My son doesn't like to spend lots of money. He has a basic black Casio Watch that is waterproof and that I about the extent of the bells and whistles. It also has an alarm.

A good sturdy black small umbrella is also very helpful!! Mostly come spring but there are rain bursts all year in GC as I recall from my son.

I think the G-shock watches or the Ironman type watches are the preferred watches. To be worn while in uniform, I think it must be predominately black. They come in a wide range of prices, starting at around maybe $30.
