Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

Good Morning Anchormom19 - We are glad you joined us! There is a lot of information to digest yes. And we are here to help you process it all. Since your son will be headed to GC around the 14th of Dec, I do not know how that will affect a possible Christmas leave compared with the sailors who have been there and "classed up" and "phased up". (Explained in my discussion above - Nuke A School daily schedule.) - Hopefully a Mom who was in that position last year will chime in.
We take one day at a time and Semper Gumby is our motto - Always Flexible.

3B'smom - How wonderful!! I just went online and watched a short YouTube of a day in the life... I have to admit, I am slightly jealous, I only got to see my son's ship from a distance and had to climb four flights up a parking garage to get an overview!! I understand that Mama's heart!!

Made a trip to Norfolk over the weekend. We were able to tour the Mighty Ike. “Mighty” doesn’t even begin to describe it. There truly are no words to describe the enormity. Our visit was short, but this mama’s heart is happy.

I don't have information on how the care packages might be done, especially for something like this. But here is a suggestion. Maybe pick one of the items that was suggested and buy or mail lots of that one thing that will fit in the priority boxes. For example, we have lots of leftover Starbursts and Skittles. If they are placed in a Ziploc bag and mailed with a note that says for care packages. Then if someone else is putting it together it could be divided up, otherwise they all get a box of Skittles that day.
Another suggestion, is get with your local Blue Star Mother Group, or there is a group on here and see if there is a place to either donate money or a drop off. I know our BSM is suppose to be doing a pack out as they call it in a few weeks before Thanksgiving, for some things local.
Also the USO has a donation area. That doesn't necessarily help the Lincoln specifically. Just some ideas from "New to all of this too!"

B'sNukeMom- I like the idea of sending a holiday care package to a sailor. I don't know where my submariner will be for Christmas and I am not counting on being able to send him anything. It would be therapeutic to lavish motherly attention on another sailor.
I have a question, though. Would the package be given intact to a sailor or would it be opened and the contents distributed? The reason I ask is that I usually fill any nook and cranny of a flat rate box with loose, wrapped candies, such as Jolly Rancher or Starburst to use all of the space. This would probably prove messy if the box were opened prior to distribution. I would probably also buy mixed gender toiletries of the contents were to be given to more than one sailor. Me, with my questions. I know, I know...there is so such thing as a stupid question. But, there is no shortage of inquisitive idiots.
On a completely different subject, how about the fire the day before Halloween? I don't think it was anywhere near you, but my neighborhood got evacuated. Only for a couple of hours, but I should have left sooner than I did because the smoke really got to me and I haven't quite fully recovered. By the time I gathered up important papers, photos, pets and their meds (insulin + cold packs, syringes, prednisone, NSAIDS, etc,) and schlepped everything down 34 stairs from the house to the car, I was there too long, engaging in too vigorous activity in the poor air quality. The police were there telling me it was time to go and I kept running back (34 stairs) to the house to get more stuff. It's weird to think that you might leave your home and never see it again and be left only with the worldly goods that you have taken with you. We have had fires close by before, we always have because of our proximity to the river bottom, but I have never before been actually afraid that the house would go up in smoke as I was this time.

"The Lincoln's deployment has been extended again. The information below is from the Ombudsman of the Bush:
Hi all one of our sister ships is in need. They have been out to sea since April and haven’t had a port call in a very long time.....
⚓The USS Abraham Lincoln was scheduled to return home before Halloween. They have already been at sea for over 8 months and have been extended again until sometime spring 2020.
As you can imagine, this news has been hard on the Sailors and they could use some love to get them through this seemingly never ending deployment. They are all feeling extremely down about spending Thanksgiving and Christmas at sea.
Their families have put out an SOS to all they can reach, to help boost their morale and let them know that people from all over think about them and care, they are asking for care packages and/or holiday cards be sent to the ship.
Do not feel obligated to participate, but if you are compelled, the suggested care package items are:
Holiday decorations
Toiletries (for women too)
Beef jerky
Gum
Non-chocolate candy (chocolate rarely survives the shipping process) Games (cards, Uno, old school stuff) Used video games (they have a variety on consoles onboard) Used movies (DVD’s) Books Cards (especially from kids) Tuna packets Seeds (sunflower in shells and other) Girl Scout cookies Energy Bars Peanut Butter Fruit snacks Goldfish crackers Store bought snacks Stocking stuffer type small gifts All the other usual care package items....
I recommend using flat rate boxes to reduce shipping costs or send something via Amazon Prime."
