I am so confused about some of the feed regarding social media and the Nuke program. I already understand the security thing, never mentioning where they are, when they are due to travel, arrive, no pictures at work, near work, in school, etc.

But am I understanding that I cannot even post a family picture with my sailor in it on say, Instagram? Once in GC and going through school, do they virtually "disappear" from society? Do they cease to exist? I had posted a pic of my son eight weeks ago leaving MEPS--no name, no tag, no location--only that I missed him and could not wait to see him again. Needless to say, even though he hasn't even gone through PIR, I deleted it. What about all the family photos with his name tagged prior to the days he even decided to enter the Navy?

ShellyMarie - as I recall my son struggled with the math some, partially because of how they presented it, and how he had to show his work. Study hours are determined by their GPA and may change with their tests. - Be sure to read the 2nd entry in my discussion above - Nuke A school daily schedule. I explain about study hours, making friends, etc.

New Adventures - One of the first things my son called home and asked us about when he was INDOC at GC, was "were there any pictures of him posted on social media?" I assured him that we did not have anything that wasn't already posted. That is, his PIR that was archived online I emailed the link to friends and family and identified where he could be seen, but nothing was posted on FB by his father and I don't think we even tag him in pictures out of uniform.

Yes, the security is a big issue and something they tell them over and over. Just as JayDee659 mentioned. That said, my husband and I were a little surprised at the way even some information was shared with the ombudsman FB group, but I guess it was within reason. And it didn't help me any because I thought they were to be underway a lot longer! So my surprise when my husband tells me they are back in port.

JayDee659 - I recalled your words though that the Nukes are always the last off the ship, so hours later, I texted him to call when able, and he finally called when we were grocery shopping, of course!! He did say, they had a helicopter flying around video taping and hoped there would be some things posted online because he wasn't allowed to share! And they were not allowed to take pictures either.

And this one he sent showing how everyone would keep their shoes lined up outside their rooms because they were dirty and they didn't want them in their rooms lol!  For some reason this one always makes me laugh - probably because at home he didn't care if he wore dirty shoes in the house!

New Adventures - this is a picture B sent me of his room (don't remember if it was A school or Power school) back in 2013.  They probably still look pretty close to this!

thesuperm72 - so glad to hear you finally have power again.  Ugh that has to be difficult. We had 2 new fires pop up here in Riverside County today - both not too far from me.  One is literally my moms old neighborhood that she moved from a year ago - they were doing evacuations.  The winds are bad and not really letting up :(  If the winds would just die down they could maybe catch a break on fighting them.  Please continue to pray for the firefighters and families in the path of the fires.

Praying for everyone near the fires! Here in NorCal, our power is finally back on after having 10 hours of power in the last 5ish days. I've gotten great at cooking breakfast and making coffee over the BBQ! We've also taught my teenagers how to calculate the number of amps something uses so they can determine how much to plug into our generator. Poor kids of teachers, always a learning moment!

Chipmunk: Thank you for the info on shipping the mattress topper to nuke school. I think she'll really appreciate and value that as a gift along with a special small item, especially since space is so limited (read prior posts about that).

Happy Wednesday power back on day! :)

New Adventures - Security at NNPTC is really next level. Because of the nature of the job, it has to be taken seriously.  There will be a lot that he cannot share.

Chipmunk, you're right, no pictures of Nukes at work.  There's a line on the floor and unless you belong in reactor, nobody goes past it, especially with a camera.  With that being said, I did see one picture from my daughter's deployment of a flock of Nukes (ET's specifically) doing a thing with a thing.  It was a tight picture and probably highly screened before it was posted.  I did catch one picture of my daughter standing on the flight deck as they went through the Straits of Gibraltar and one when she got an award for some thing during the thing....
