Thank you! I was so excited to finally get the form letter today--two weeks to the day. He was in processing a very long time, arriving September 4 and starting official recruit training with his Division on Monday the 16th. He is not a musician but was assigned to the 953 Division--I assume they have to round those Divisions out. He says he is in with some really great recruits. Anyhoo, he sent three letters and sounds great! Thanks so much for all the support!

Just a hello! My son is currently at boot camp--just received his Division assignment, but I know there is much to learn about expectations for this particular A School where he is headed in November (assuming all else goes well, ha ha!) So happy this group is available for questions and guidance. Hope to join you all later this fall!

We have AT&T and I have a great discount that Version can not match and yet one of my other "kids" has #$%#$ about AT&T forever.  Of course he could pay for his own phone line and move anytime he wants.  hint hint hint. or b..ch b,,ch b..ch.

The cost of new phones also stopes me from switching but being able to stay in contact with my sailor is much more important then any of the above so maybe it is time to think about it.

With AT&T and my particular phone I have no limits on the hot spot function unlike what Version does.  Once again my head hurts with all this.  Maybe a dart in the wall will decide.

Bottom line is I got the wifi only ipad a for a song.  A clearance of the current model to make room in a limited space for the new model coming in.  Not sure the deal fell in the rules of Apple so shhhh.

New Adventures - interesting that you should ask. We (including our sailor) have had AT&T the whole time he has been in the navy. Just a couple weeks ago our son was telling us that AT&T was always fine when he was at GC and BS but now that he is in Bremerton he has had some frustrations. It seems like those with Verizon there do much better. We have been needing to upgrade our phones so I think we are going to switch to Verizon when we do that.

New Adventures - Verizon definitely seems to be the best service.

Comment by JayDee659 on September 18, 2019 at 2:35pm

New Adventures, my daughter has Verizon, her husband (then boyfriend) had Sprint.  My daughter had superior service, her boyfriends service was decent but not as impressive.  His experience led him to switch to Verizon (he's now on our family plan).

When my daughter was deployed Verizon was great.  She opened her phone in Greece and the first thing that came up was a message from Verizon asking her if she wanted to use their overseas day plan (whatever it's called).  It was $10/day unlimited talk, text and data.  What a win!  She would get to a port, say "yes" to the plan and it ended up costing us far less than the international package.

I know all the carriers do their best.  We've been pleased with Verizon.

Thanks!

I meant BEQ not BEH-  still learning the codes.

I guess I thought it might be more like dorms but that they might need to be hardwired not use wifi for security reasons.  I am glad I ask.

So next question is cell signal in the BEQ rooms.  Any experience with a bad signal for one company vs another?  I have been toying with a new phone for me and could give him my current one which would have the hotspot feature if they did not get their own wifi.

My parents had one company for years and then the company "upgraded" their system and all of a sudden my parents could not even call 911 from within the house or driveway.  they had to go to the back yard.  The other main company in town has a perfectly clear signal at their house so they switched.  Now they have slow signal when at my house.  We live 5 miles apart in the burbs- go figure.

On my recent trip the companies coverage map said strong signal most places I was going to be so I paid for the international plan.  I got a signal 3 days.  Even within sight of a town and with 4 bars no text or calls would go through never mind the net.   Just some examples of why I ask.

Does the Navy have a preferred company?

New Adventures, my daughter says she and her roomie split wifi with their suite mates.  They got the wifi through the local cable company (I cannot recall but Comcast comes to mind...).  This way they had their own private wifi and only 4 on it.

Also, his Ipad will not be allowed in the classroom so he will need to keep it locked away when in classes.
