Everyone have a wonderful day! Keep phones nearby and remember that our sailors are being well taken care of. I will be in and out of internet availability today and I don't use a smartphone, so feel free to post questions, but lets remember OPSEC/PERSEC.

Katymom5 - My son is on a sub. He finished prototype several months ago. He volunteered for sub duty when he enlisted, but didn't know for sure that he would be assigned to a sub until pretty much the end of prototype training.

My son directly from boot camp to Charleston and went straight from Charleston to his duty station after prototype.

During boot camp he filled out his "dream sheet" for duty stations for both subs and carriers. He found out he got sub duty during prototype and then he again filled out a dream sheet for sub duty stations.

He takes OPSECs probably way more seriously than he needs to because he is really vague about what was involved with his training for subs. I know he didn't go elsewhere for whatever training he did do. I guess the Navy has switched things up since my son went through the pipeline.

Thanks CO-Twin!

Happy Labor Day everyone! My youngest is happy to get some Skype time with his brother, the sailor!

Hurricane Dorian is bringing about evacuations on the east coast. Remember your sailor is the best source for information on what is going on and if or when they may or may not be evacuated. Keep in mind that at times like this cell phone usage should be kept to a minimum for the emergency crews and even charging phones may be difficult. Hopefully your sailors have reached out to you, but if not, now would be a good time to call or text since it is a holiday.

So once again, "No News is Good News."

My son was a Nuke. He served his 6 years and is now in college. He is taking Physics, Oceanography and Atmospheric sciences. His plans are to go to work for NOAA.

Anyway, He had his PIR and went directly the next day to GC for A school, then also at GC for Power school. They don't split up till after powerschool. He stayed in GC for Proto. Others went to BS, NY.

Comment by Chipmunk on September 1, 2019 at 8:08pm

Katymom5 - Yes, be sure to share with us any information you glean. All the best to your son as he continues throughout BC.

I don't know any answers for sure to your question, but at my son's PIR, we meet someone who I am sure her son was going Nuke, but he as well was headed to CT first for "sub school." I was as confused then as I am now, so your information will be appreciated.

Navymom18 and WearsLargeHats  I googled it and they have a 6 week class there for organization, safety and escape procedures for subs.  I guess I will find out for sure after Oct 11.:)

Comment by Navymom18 on September 1, 2019 at 6:17pm

Katymom5 - my sailor is sub vol too. Like WearsLargeHats said, unless they JUST made some major changes, the only nuke A school is in GC. They have to get through A school, Power school and Prototype  before they get assigned to a sub/ship. Also, not all sub vols get assigned to a sub. Keep us posted!

Comment by WearsLargeHats on September 1, 2019 at 5:46pm

Katymom5, I've never heard of them doing that. Unless there have been some big changes, nukes don't go to Groton.
