Got the 'I'm a sailor' call -- Div 188 ! Woo hoo!

Comment by SubMom on April 23, 2019 at 7:31pm

WonderGeekWoman - that is great news for all of you!!

CSW - so glad you heard from your sailor. Ours is going sub as well. I just keep reminding myself that the lack of communication now is preparing me for the time when he goes to the fleet.

Chipmunk - thanks for the FYI on Prototype. Hoping your son can see his sister and the rest of the family.

As for apartments our sailor and his roommates were upfront with the different apartment complexes about tentative move in dates. Sounded like it wasn’t too big of an issue as long as they could give a little heads up. I think most complexes down there are used to the military way. Our sailor immediately started moving out the day he finished comp as he had to be out of the BEQ the day after comps. He was busy but got it done!

Some Prototype FYI - for those of you planning on the upcoming graduations. Just keep in mind that if your sailor has not completed their oral boards and the entire checkout process about the week or more before graduation then it is likely they will not be released at graduation. In other words, plan for probably at least a week after graduation before they have their leave/travel time.

There are some who are still waiting on their orders. Others may get held at NPTU to fill a job there until their ship comes into port or various other reasons. You never know, so helping with the - flexibility planning!!   I still highly recommend going to graduation, but just know, your sailor may not be able to leave home with you right afterwards.

Kerriknowz, my daughter was told that they'd fly out of O'hare and it was suggested ti her group that they should have their parents spend Friday night at the hotel there so it would be easier on them if it was an early morning flight. Then at PIR they told us it would be Midway. Thank goodness we'd gotten a room that  could be canceled at the drop of a hat. Semper Gumby!

Comment by CSW on April 23, 2019 at 5:29pm

YES!

I have experience where they fly out of either.

Bring a note card and ask your sailor to give you his flight information when he has it.

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on April 23, 2019 at 5:28pm

They can fly out of either - it just depends on what the Navy finds for availability with the number of sailors leaving to different locations.

Welcome to our newest member ~ Bambi!  Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page.  The NF Rating Information Card is especially helpful.  Also be sure to read the Pages (18) to the right under the member profiles.  Lots of good info there too.  And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

WonderGeekWoman - thank you for the update!  I'm sure your son is going to do very well in his new rate.  I remember B saying he worked alongside a few of his buddies that had been re-rerated out of the nuke program.  Your son will probably know many of the guys he's working with from the nuke program.  And that's awesome that you will be moving closer to him - I'm jealous lol!

CSW - yes, sub silence is a whole 'nother animal.  Glad you got a text!

Chipmunk - I hope the timing works out that he can visit with his sister and family before they leave overseas.

It can be difficult finishing up power school and trying to get moved off base in such a short time.  I remember B doing it and he had to move to NY for prototype.  Somehow they manage though!  It's good preparation for when they get to the fleet.....

Comment by Chipmunk on April 23, 2019 at 10:17am

CSW - So glad you were finally able to hear from your sailor!!

And it is good for you to remind us of the silence that you sub moms go through. It will be hard enough having mine on a carrier. Our time of being able to call or even leave a text msg is now limited and yours even more so.

Comment by CSW on April 23, 2019 at 8:13am

I love hearing about your sailors, but sometimes so hard when you don't hear from yours!  Finally got a text and all's well!

Sub life is sure different than any of the schools!

:)

Thank you Navy Moms for keeping things going when it gets tough.
