WonderGeekWoman - Thank you for sharing the news of your son's new rate! I sent you a friend request!

How was the graduation at Ballston Spa?  I hope all things went well for everyone traveling! Please share!

Comment by Chipmunk on April 22, 2019 at 8:20pm

pandalvr - I don't recall the actual logistics and details, but my son and his roommates went and found their apartment, and put a down payment on it, with the understanding that they would not be moving in until later in the month after their Power School graduation. I don't know if they had to sign papers or not. So, I don't know how this new policy will affect things.

As for the wait time to start Prototype, I don't know. My son's class started after they came back from their leave and because they had been delayed starting a week, due to the hurricane pushing their PS graduation back a week, their INDOC time was shortened and they started right in on their studies.

Comment by WonderGeekWoman on April 22, 2019 at 8:18pm

After almost four months of waiting, my son has his new rating and has been assigned to his first ship! The best news of all, after we make our move this summer, we'll be less than two hours from him! He's going to be an EM on the USS Ford! Because he got so far through the nuke pipeline, he doesn't even need to do the new A School, so straight to the fleet! I will miss being a part of this wonderful group of women! You're all so supportive and amazing. Fair winds and following seas, sea sisters! BNMH!!

I hate goodbyes. We are only a 4hr car drive for now, I still hate it. As of this week after PS graduation they are told not to sign until they graduate. How are they suppose to get out and find a place in 24 hours. Mine got his about 2 weeks before graduation (he hear a rumor they were not moving off base) it was not true thank god. Any one know the wait to start prototype?

I heard 2-8 months. I hate when i dont hear from him.

Comment by Chipmunk on April 22, 2019 at 6:07pm

And yes, Hammer - be prepared for less communication - it will prepare you for Prototype when you may never know what their work schedule is.

Comment by Chipmunk on April 22, 2019 at 6:06pm

The Hammer - I think that is wonderful that you are able to get a beach house and spend your sailors leave time out there with him. I hear things are changing around some at NNPTC as to when the sailors are getting their apartments - so those of you later in the pipeline will need to be able to share your experiences as well.

B'sMom - so as normal dates have changed with my sailor's orders. But from what he shared earlier today, he doesn't really have any more time to figure everything out with his new work schedule. He should still have his month transport time off and so we are hopeful that means he can actually go with the family to visit his oldest sister and BIL before they head oversees.

I think I added some info to Prototype Graduation, & sight seeing discussion as well, yesterday.

Comment by SubMom on April 22, 2019 at 4:24pm

B’sNukeMoM - not at all! Anytime we find a new place to eat or visit I like to share.

The Hammer - our sailor just graduated Power School. It was almost complete silence for us the last two months before graduation due to constant exams and prepping for comp. Not sure it will be that way for your sailor but just be ready.

Chipmunk - our sailor dragged his feet when we left too. I think he wanted us to stay longer but wouldn’t come out and say it. I have teared up each time but haven’t balled like a baby. I know that will happen the day he goes to fleet.

NMH to everyone on this sight. Thank you so much for your support and insight!

SubMom - I hope you don't mind - I added your restaurant recommendations up above to the Sightseeing in Charleston discussion ;-D
