JayDee, congratulations on your daugther's wedding! When you are young and in love nothing matters. Wish them both the best!
I was a navy wife once, with a baby and a job that took me all over the west coast, the deployments were long and hard but somehow we made it.
Haven't been here in a while but always follow the emails. Congratulations to every sailor that was advanced, great job!
I don't hear much from my son this days, but for a quick phone call every two weeks. I know he's doing very good at work and everyone is looking forward to the day the carrier is out of the shipyard.
He will make a brief visit this month but I have no idea when.
B'sNuke that was a fantastic vacation! Great pics!
My husband was just discharged from the hospital this evening. He had bilateral total knee replacement surgery last Friday. Not fun. But he's doing very well with his therapy. VA is sending a therapist home every other day, so that will help a lot.
Have a good night everyone!

SanDiego Mom, my daughter tells me there's a lot of Nuke in-dating.  I guess they all just understand each other.  They are a special breed. :)

Semper Gumby.  Yes, October 8.  All us parents will be there for graduation so it seemed like the perfect time.

JayDee - I'm sure they'll be able to make it work!  They already know that with the Navy you must be flexible and plans can change at any moment....that's half the battle :)  Do they have a date for the big day?

Comment by JayDee659 on June 9, 2016 at 2:30pm

They understand that it may not work.  My husband and I have been married 29 years and for the past 12 he's been a catastrophe adjuster which keeps him away from home up to 98% of the year.  The year Katrina hit he spent 3 nights at home in a 54 week period.  If both parties want it, it will work.  I've raised my girls and now they have to try out life for themselves.  There's no better teacher than experience.

I don't know that the 360 mile thing always works. I am on another group and the bride was in Hawaii and her groom got Japan! They are now together after two years apart as newlyweds. Now both at Pearl Harbor.

She and her fiancee have been going to church, she just needs to talk to the pastor. I told her she needs  to hurry up so we can make sure he's available that day.  She is worried about the fact that she's not in church every Sunday. I told her he wouldn't scold her that he'd understand the challenges of the Navy and Sundays.  After almost pulling out my hair I got her fiancee on the phone and instructed him.  Between them they will get it done.  They want to have the reception at their home so that's easy.  It's the church deal that will make me nuts as I can't just call and do that for them.

My daughter mentioned that if married they're supposed to be stationed within 350 miles of each other.  If you ever wanted to know the secret for a good  marriage the Navy has an answer - 350.  :)  He's going subs and she'll be surface so they may have some time apart but they're young and in love.

Oh what exciting news JayDee!  Congrats!  And how fun, we ahem, I mean you, get to plan a wedding!  Excited to see how everything turns out....and what will happen when they finish proto and get their orders?  I know they aren't allowed to be stationed on the same ship....  I'm sure there are some beautiful places in SC to get married ;-)
