Hi Everyone - how long does it usually take to get the Nuke security clearance?  My son has been in DEP for 6 months and told his recruiter last week he'd be willing to ship out early.  but just got a call that his clearance isn't done yet so he has to wait.

Thanks Buzzbeck. My daughter told me A school graduation "wasn't a thing". She seems glad that her dad and I are coming anyway. Just ran into her recruiter at dinner. He assured me it is "a thing".

JayCee659 - My sailor's A School grad date was moved at the last minute. Too late to change reservations. So, I made the trip east anyway and had a good time with him. We are looking forward to Power School graduation. I hear it is a bigger grad ceremony than A School, so not likely to be changed. I am learning to be a flexible Navy mom.

Nice tattoo. Good Nuke ingenuity.

Thanks for the link, I joined their group.  I'm going to join the ship's group whenever he gets assigned.  You've all been so wonderful to me, I'd miss not hearing what's going on here and I'm glad you wanted me to stay.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

NancyJo - love the tattoo!  That's really creative ;-)

Donna - glad things are working out for your son.  There is a CS group.  Here's the link:

Donna, it sounds like, as usual, they land on their feet. Nuke isn't for everyone and he's finding the right fit for him. I'm so glad for him!

I don't know about a CS group. I suppose you need to search. But definitely get on his ship's group. There you will be able to keep up with all the coming and going. I know my sailor isn't a big talker and I needed to get the down low somewhere.

I'm so glad you are sticking with us. I feel like we are a family and even as life rolls on and seasons change, we want to keep up and support each other.

NancyJo - love the tattoo your sailor got.  How creative.

Finally got to talk to my son last night.  Funny how for him it only seemed like a week since we last talked, while Mom was a mess because it was so much longer than that.

Friday he signed his papers for CS (Culinary Specialist), now we wait for a ship assignment.  He's come to terms with the situation, so I see that as a good sign the future will work out.  He told me that 1 of his roommates dropped out of the Nuke program (don't know how), and one of his other roommates is going to try and drop out this week.  I guess it's just not for them.

I laughed and told him he started a not so good thing.  He's still working his temporary job until they hand him his orders.  Hopefully he'll have time to call and let me know what he can about where's he's assigned.

Can anyone tell me if there's a CS group to join?  Or would it be better to wait and join the group attached to his assigned ship?

OK, I figured out how to get the photo to my computer. What an ordeal! This is my sailor's tatt:
