Enjoy J's/S'smom I have enjoyed my visit so far.
Bsmom - so sorry just read about your sons situation. Hugs to you but hopefully lesson learned and he can grow from situation. the hardest part was probably him feeling he let you all down. He's lucky to have understanding supportive parents like you. Cryptology seems to be the 2nd choice for most nukes. Hopefully he will find something he enjoys, nuke life isn't easy and not many 2nd choices are given unfortunately. Tough lesson at such an early age. hugs and comfort to your family glad to hear your sticking around.
ItGal sorry for your loss.
Cotwin bet your happy to have one of your sailors home.
Happy New Years to all
Yeah I thin it was the Truman that Iran took a pot shot at with a missile that hit 1500yard from the ship!! And to think our Government is giving them billions of our $$ with that deal.
ITGal- Sorry to read about your SIL. My prayers are with you and your family. My Aunt passed away when my son was on deployment. She was a pilar in our family, The "crazy Aunt", as we affectionately nick-named her. I was able to get a FB message to my son to call a.s.a.p./911. He was able to get to phone and call me and took the news pretty hard. At that point, I contacted the ship ombudsman to make her aware that I was concerned for him and she contacted the ships chaplain right away. It was shortly after that that I got an email from the ships captain and from the chaplain assuring me that he was doing okay. His ship was in the Middle East at the time and it was so hard to not be able to comfort him. But I just had to put my faith in his crew mates that they could help him through it. Again, my prayers to you and your family.
Sad new about the hotel in Dubai. I believe that was the one that my son and quite a few others stayed in while they were in port and on leave.
Happiest of new year to you all!
Ah - J's/S's mom - great idea. My brain is not at its sharpest right now. I knew this group was the place to go!
Thanks, everyone. I should have mentioned I spoke to the Ombudsman last night. She suggested the Red Cross, but didn't really sound confident, so I thought I'd check in here. Perhaps she knew, as I just was told by the Red Cross, that they will not deliver this message because an Aunt doesn't qualify for emergency message delivery. (There are exceptions if they are in the same household/raised the sailor.)
So I'm now left with deciding about the email route. I agree, J's/S's mom, it is a difficult call to make, which is why I just wanted to get the message to the command and let them decide when/how to deliver it. It will be a shock whenever he gets word. I'd just like him to be with someone who cares about his well being when he hears it. We'll think on it a bit more.
Thanks all for the kind words. She was a wonderful mother, SIL and friend who leaves behind her husband (my brother) and 4 sons, 21-26. Oldest just married in October, 2 discharged from Army in the last couple of months and the youngest, an Army sergeant stationed in HI, on his way home now.
