When we were in Norfolk last week we went to the NEX & we bought some of sailor's favorite personal items (shampoo/body wash/deodorant).  He told me he didn't need us to buy them for him but I brought them home with us so I can send them to him partway through his deployment.  That way it will be "his brand" of stuff.  He was ok with that since they don't always have the them on the ship.  And I bought a bunch of the Mio energy too! LOL great minds think alike!

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

J's/S'smom - the gift box sounds nice but I'm guessing that's just for subs.  I can't imagine the logistics of that for a carrier! I will be able to send him care packages while he is deployed but he reminded me that there isn't much room! I told him that's ok he can just share with others ;-)

wiscmom - it can vary, but he might be able to get a couple weeks.  As an ELT, he's in the smallest nuc division on the boat, you could probably count them on one hand.  That means that seniority and the plans of other ELTs is a factor.  He should have a pretty good idea in time to let you know what to expect before he gets back.  If he can't have leave right away, he may likely be in a stand-down period for a week or two after return.  It may be a little different now, but that used to mean you only had to go to the boat every third day or so for duty.

This is so good to know... our son is deployed on the USS City of Corpus Christi and the Ombudsman encouraged us to try to make time/budget for the Homecoming after the new year. Does anyone have any idea how long our son might get for leave post deployment? He is an MM and ELT on the sub. Thanks so much for any answers to this. :)

hello all!!

jsmom--glad you are getting some time with your sailor!!

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on October 27, 2015 at 6:09pm

That's one of the reasons we probably won't be going to homecoming - the fact that the nukes are one of the last ones off the ship....of course the distance from CA to VA is also a deterrent!  I just keep reminding myself that he'll get to come home on leave after deployment.

J's/S'smom - sounds like you are making the best of your visit.  Enjoy your time with your sailor!

Some new moms here...only 5 from 2800. Didn't anybody catch that? Too late for a contest? Anyway, if I've missed anybody, welcome new moms! We're here for you.

Rhonda, so happy for you and your sailor!! What wonderful news! Hooyah!

brite, my sailor missed Singapore because he joined the ship late. Maybe next time. We hear it's really a great visit.

J'smom, I agree. Such a heavy responsibility for those young people. When a vessel comes in the nukes are the last to leave so even though my son had a family waiting, he didn't get off the ship until most of the hooplah had passed. In fact, his wife had held back not wanting to wrestle the crowds only to stand on her pregnant feet for hours and ended up running into him at Starbucks. He was on his way to McDonald's to wait. Oh well. It was still great for them.

Enjoy having your sailor home and give him N4M hugs for the rest of us with empty arms. That's a lot of hugs!

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Rhonda - woohoo!!!!! BZ to your son - what an awesome accomplishment ;-)  Doing the happy dance for both of you!

angier - your son needs to put you on the mailing list.  There is specific info that he needs to send to his FRG (Family Readiness Group).  The same way he added your ex is how he needs to add you....hopefully he's not out right now & you can ask him to do this.  Good luck with this.

NancyJo - go for it - the family tree would be awesome!  It didn't hurt at all....I don't regret my decision one bit.

britefuture - oh Singapore sounds like fun!  Mine is getting ready to deploy next month & he's looking forward to visiting the different ports.  I'm excited for him!

MarkAnthony'sMom - yep, it's a lot of ups & downs.  Just keep encouraging him - be the biggest cheerleader you can be!

Praying for all taking comps tomorrow. I remember well that day when my son took his. He was so scared he would not pass. He did with flying colors. You all will be thrilled on Friday when you attend graduation. (I think it is Friday?)
