SlezaksMom, I remember you,,,Wow what a recap. I was exhausted reading it. Congrates to your sailor. It is amazing how fast they grow up in the Navy and learn to do stuff for themselves. Neat.

Thank you all!!

Yes, I'm doing well, too. Made it through my first deployment with a minimum of upset -- although the pictures of them pulling out of port were tough!!

SlezaksMom - thanks for the update!  Good to hear that things are going so well for your son ;-)  I hope all is well with you too....

Lilo54 - visits with sailors are the best ;-)  Glad you made it to GC safely!  Happy Anniversary - I'm sure you'll have a blast in New Orleans - the train sounds like fun. Be careful with those hurricane drinks - they'll sneak up on you lol!

Still happy from our visit last week to our sailor.  Of course with 95S closed and my alternative route flooded, we finally made it to Goose Creek 3hrs later than planned.  It gives new meaning to the phrase - "come hell or high water", we which we experienced both, we were going to get to our destination!!!!!   But to see the smile on our son's face when I demanded hugs and didn't want to let go, it made it all worth it!   It was a short trip but we packed a lot in.  I think he needed a little TLC from Mom (and Dad).  Power School is tough and its probably nice to have someone who thinks he's No. 1 and needed a pep talk of how proud we are of him no matter what!!!!  Then I got a bonus call this afternoon while he was waiting for his friends.  Now I am on cloud 9.  It was also good to hear he made it though another week of power school and one week closer to graduation in December.  By the way, we were amazed at change in our son.  He is more mature and focused and said the Navy was the right choice for him.  Maturity, eating fruits and vegetables, exercising and doing his own ironing and laundry.  This is not the same young man that I sent off to boot camp last November.  This new version is even more awesome!

My husband and I are getting ready to go on the first vacation without children in 25 years!   We celebrated our 30 year anniversary so we decided it was time to take a trip.  We are headed to New Orleans on the train in a sleeper bedroom suite.  Should be fun.   I warned my sailor and his sister that they might get some funny photos of me walking down Bourbon Street with a slushie hurricane drink!

I don't post as much as I used to back when my son was in the Nuke pipeline, but wanted to share that my son just received his fish!! So excited for him!!

For those keeping score: within the last year he has graduated from prototype, reenlisted, moved across country on his own, deployed as a nub, went from nub to being his division's skinny guy who could clean all the long-neglected tight spaces, qualified for his first watch, qualified for all the watches they want him to, visited multiple foreign ports of call, had sushi in Japan, ate Chinese food in China, visited a nightclub in Korea, became a shell back rather than a wog, moved into his own apartment, decided to save his money, got a tattoo and now Dolphins.

I'm thrilled for him and exhausted just typing it!!

I wanted to share with the folks who root for our sailors as hard as I do.

Xoxo

Phoenix Karen, my husband and I are also going on the Tiger Cruise. Our son is also a nuke. We are arriving on Friday. You can PM me if you like. We have our flights and hotels booked for the beginning and after the cruise. Getting home will be tough because of the timing of the cruise.
