Mark said it best. A Cruisebook is basically a yearbook for a deployment. I got a surprise picture order form in the mail, too, for the picture of my son that was taken for the book. He had just re-inlisted and promoted so his new rank was on his uniform. And I was able to order a picture of him with a picture of his ship super-imposed next to him. I haven't seen a yearbook, yet, but am very excited to get it. Another of many anticipations that I have learned to love since my son left.

Peace- Welcome to the family. We are here for you. Ask anything. Big or small it will be answered. Congrats on your future Nuke. Hang on tight, it's a crazy ride and worth every tear and sleepless night that's coming your way. Best advice that I can give is support, support, support. You can not send too many letters. My son has every letter that I've sent him in a binder tucked away in page protectors. Whenever he got discouraged or down, he said that he would open the binder and smile.

CoTwin- Thanks! My Mom gave me a little starter kit with a few tips and I've purchased a few more. My little one turns 4 in November and I'm planning on making a pirate cake for his party.

B'sNuke- Did you get one of those fancy fridges? My MIL got one that has a t.v. on it and it tracks her groceries for her. Then it will send a list to her cell phone when she's ready to go to the store. Crazy stuff!

Ionians, my son's advice for deployment comes from his experience on a boat. All submarines should pack at least 16 changes of underwear and socks -roll each set together- because there will be times when laundry will not be available for a couple weeks. And baby wipes are necessary when the shower is not available during that time. Don't want to think about how stinky a boat gets after 2 weeks of running quiet!

Peace....These mom's on here are awesome, and it seems there's a few dad's (because the group is so active) and even former nukes on here, which is awesome. All are full of great information for now and once your future sailor is in the nuke pipeline. The part we've really been impressed with is the acceptance the group has of folks who's future nukes do well and those who struggle, and wonderful support when a parent and their future nuke has to be flexible during the path. It's so good to know that some become nukes and it was meant for them, others learn that the nuke path isn't for them and they end up taking a different path, and all is supported, gracefully. Our new sailor is is at the very beginning, in A school in Charleston, and it helps us to know that we and she has support if she goes on to become a nuke, or if she decides a different path would be better for her. We've seen the support for all coming from this group. And it's full of tips of how you can encourage your recruit through boot camp, and into A school and beyond. No question goes un answered for long. Some of us don't post often, because we just don't know enough yet, others post more because of their experience. All posts are helpful and comforting and knowledgeable and personable. And sometimes include things little exciting things like getting a new fridge  when the old one blows up :-) So enjoy the journey with this group. We have and are. It's a very tough one for your recruit. They will need all the support and encouragement they can get in coming months. Read back posts to gain much info, in addition to all the links to information packed pages. We don't post often, but we enjoy reading what all have to say on here as they share the lives of their own nukes. Do read the info about what to post and what not to post. That's important. Others will let you know about that also.

Nice cake Brightfuture. Like it, yes crumb coat is a pain but sure helps.

Johanna: I may seem harsh, but I feel it is not my deployment, navy trains my son well on how to prepare and he is learning how to a young adult and how to be in charge of himself. He does not me to go through a check list with him. Likewise, my boys get their own auto insurance, registration, plane tickets etc... I am immensely proud of them and how well they do these things for themselves

Happy new fridge.

Welcome Peace!  Yes, you've come to the right place ;-)

Be sure to read the pages (10) to the right, under the member profiles.  Lots of good info there.  Also go through the discussion forum above (hit "view all").  You should find plenty of reading to keep you busy for a while.  Feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Happy momma here - got a call from my sailor last night!  He's still on an underway....so nice to hear his voice.  He sounded tired but otherwise good ;-)

britefuture - my new fridge will be here tomorrow.  Yesterday I called a rental place & had a fridge delivered just until the end of the week.  I decided I couldn't do the ice chest thing again - lost too much food the last time this happened & didn't want to go through that again!

Your cake turned out nice!  Sounds like a fun time...I've sort of started my Christmas shopping....I pick up little things throughout the year & save them....my sailor will be deployed at Christmas so it will be different this year. Glad to hear your classes aren't too difficult lol!

I've heard about the Cruisebooks - hoping the Truman does one too!

Hi all,    I have a daughter at RTC with a PIR of 11/13/15.   Is this a good group for info on new future Nukes?   I would love to hear any advise you might have.  Thanks

Good morning. Having fun with my sailor home. He and I watched my granddaughter/ his niece last night. It was a first for baby. She is about 14 weeks and mom did a 10hr night shift. Baby doesn't want take a bottle, so it was a long night with a lot of crying. Wonderful birth control for anyone, lol. Have a great day.

A cruisebook is very similar to a high school yearbook, commemorating a deployment, including ports of call.

Comment by Johanna on September 29, 2015 at 9:40am
Ok, now I am curious... what is a Cruisebook???
Words of wisdom for a departing Sailor... Never leave with an unfinished argument/discussion. It will follow you on your deploy. Say all that needs to be said and leave with a clear conscience. Everyone will fare better. Life will happen, for your Sailor and at home, but the foundation will be strong enough to overcome any issues...can you tell I am a glass overflowing kind of Mom...;))
