Yes, B'sNuke, once our sailors hit the fleet we live for those emails, phone calls, and Facebook posts. Facebook was our best means b/c my son isn't what you would call chatty and he could knock out a lot of people with a FB post.

Dittersmom, hang in there. As moms we just want to fix things and our sailors are reliant on only themselves. We now are in the back seat. What would that be in naval terms? The hold?

Hi all - Happy Monday!

Dittersmom - the good thing is they will work with him (a lot!) to get him to pass.  He should be fine - just a little bump in the road!  Keep us updated and hang in there ;-)

Michelle0206 - if you look through the discussions above (hit "view all") you should find info on the villas....

I'm a happy momma - got an email & 2 FaceBook messages from my son (he's on an underway).  He's very busy and it's hot but he's doing well.  Good to hear from him ;-)

Hi Michelle0206, the Villas offer a couple of advantages, but your sailor has to make the reservations -- you can't reserve them yourself -- and they do fill up quickly.  They are relatively inexpensive and give you a full "house" -- full kitchen, living room, and several bedrooms.  They are simply furnished, but also have grills and picnic tables outside, so we hosted a cookout for our son's friends.  The other advantage is that they are close to where you can pick up your sailor, so staying there cuts down on a lot of driving.  That being said, though, there are many good hotels not far from the base.  Enjoy your visit!

Michelle, there are more than 2 villas. They are great but they fill up fast and your sailor will need to make that reservation. That is where I stayed for Power School grad, the only grad I was able to make, and are very roomy and convenient. Good luck and have a great time! Let us know how it goes.

Hi navy moms! We are planning on a visit the week of Thanksgiving for our sailor's A-School graduation. We will be driving down from CT. I am looking for any help, recommendations for places to stay. Considering the Villas, just found there are two???
We got so much help from Sarge at the meet and greet but prior to that I feel there was too much we didn't know. Are there advantages to the Villas vs off base accommodations? Is it difficult to get on base? Do they fill up quickly? Thanks for your help!

Hello all.  My loving son (LOL)  finally shared info by text.  He is not graduating with his class for proto. He says that he didn't pass one of his sections and has to retest on graduation day.  Glad that I didn't plan on attending.  He seems to be okay with it, so we will see what happens from here.  He still doesn't have any hard orders, so he says that is still up in the air.  Have a great week everyone.

hello all!!

submom--congrats to your sailor for passing boards!!   it is so nice when they pass any test!

donna---congrats to your sailor for getting through power school.  I was just looking at pictures of when my son graduated.  it seems like yesterday when in fact it has been 3 years.

Lula - welcome to our group!  You can give your daughter sheets & a pillow if you like (she'll have to find a way to pack them in her seabag when she leaves BC for SC) or she can buy some when she gets there.  We never sent any for our son, I guess he took care of it himself lol!  The NEX is right there so they can buy what they need.

Make sure you read through the pages (10 of them) to the right under the member profiles.  Lots of good info there!  And feel free to ask questions - we're a friendly group ;-)

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

BZ to your sailor submomIII - does he have orders yet?

Donna - so glad you had a nice time at PS grad and glad your son made it to NY safe & sound.  Hopefully you'll get to visit him there - Ballston Spa is a beautiful area!
