This picture was on the door leading into where the nukes work on my son's ship.  Glad they have a sense of humor!

Great comments, B'sNuke. abc2, I agree with what B'sNuke says. I wear my navy stuff and have a blue star flag in my front window at home. And the fact is that as far as ship movements go, we usually find out after the fact so we can't spill anything to hostile internet lurkers. On my son's ship's page, both on N4M and Facebook, everybody can see what ship he is on but I never use his name, especially his last name. I think common sense rules the day and if there is ever a question, review OPSEC rules. When we are on the web, less is better.

My sailor did tell me that he knows one of the sailors that had personal information released by unfriendlies while they were deployed. That man's attitude was "That's right. They know me and are afraid of me. We are doing something right." He wore that like a badge of honor. My sailor admired this very much. It just makes me so proud to have a child be part of the navy family.

Hi all - Happy Friday!!!

Co-Twin - yep my sailor just turned 26 last month so he was a little older when he joined.  The Navy has been good for him!  And I can't believe my college son will be 21 in a month.  Yikes - where has the time gone? lol  I hope all goes well with your BFF and her treatments.

acb2 - I have a sticker on my car & my license plate frame representing the Navy (and of course my sticker for my college son!).  We fly our Navy flag in front of our house (and the college flag).  I wear my Navy hat on the weekends (& all the time when on vacation!).  I don't worry about stuff like that.  I'm careful on FB - have my security settings pretty tight...My theory is we can't live in fear - be cautious - but don't be fearful.

Isn't it hard to believe that those huge guys were once inside you? I am 5'3 and my nuke son is 6'4"

Oh PattyP I am so sorry for your loss. My BFF just had Breast CA surgery today; Her son texted she is groggy but awake now and they think they got all CA.

Oh dang, another shooting. What is wrong with people?

B's mom, WOW look how manly your son is, So fun to see all these kids who were young kids a couple of years ago and are now full fledged men.

Looks like you all had fun.

I heard from my son last night. He just surfaced and was talking as he got off the boat. Said he was a little loopy as he had several shifts of 24 on-3 hours sleep- 24 hours on etc...

His rack is next to a torpedo so when they have to run drills there he gets booted and has to get creative to sleep. The thin oxygen also makes one a little loopy.

Anyway while he was talking to me, He couldn't find his car. went back and forth between two lots till he found it. Told me how funny it is that sometimes you will see just a periscope poking up in the water at the pier and you know there is an entire sub under there.

He gets to be ashore for a while now.

He misses his twin and said he can hardly remember what he looks like. I texted him some recent photos I had. His twin plans to spend his post deployment leave in Hawaii with his bro.

Since my sailor won't be home much anymore I don't worry much stickers. I don't wear my shirts if I'm with him but I wear them at home. However, I don't talk about him or his service on social media anymore. If I say anything it's more generic support our troops type stuff.

Question. As family members of military, is it putting our loved one at risk to signify we are affiliated with them? (Bumper stickers, tshirts). I was told not to endanger our military by wearing or having anything that shows we support them due to recent events.

Patti I am so sorry for your loss, prayers to you and your family.

Big hugs to you & your family Patti....man the whole cancer thing really sucks.  And it's scary to think that the doctors missed it :(  Going to be a tough conversation with your son. Extra prayers your way when the time comes to tell him.

As for the pictures - I am the shrimp in the family!  I'm 5'4" (5'5" on a good day!) and my guys are 6'4" & 6'5".  Sailor would laugh that I almost wouldn't make it in the selfie pictures each time we took one.  I had to jump to make sure I was in them!

NancyJo - I'm sorry you didn't get more time with your Sailor when you were there.  It's nice though that they covered for him on the Family Cruise. I feel they are all tight like that (at least the nukes seem to be!).

My sailor & mommamac's also roomed together in NY.  He's a good guy too!  We like him ;-)  They are on different ships but that will work out better so when one is deployed hopefully the other is home to keep an eye on their apartment.  They were telling us they really want a dog but they know that won't work right now lol!
