I know it seems early to be asking about this, but I have a question about the holiday stand-down. My daughter's sailor graduates from A school tomorrow (!!!!) and anticipates starting Power School mid-July and graduating from Power School just before Christmas. Last year, he was able to come home for the whole stand-down but I don't know how it normally works. Is that liberty? Or leave? Does he need to have two weeks of leave banked to come home? Do they even let them take two weeks or does someone have to stay on base and stand watches and whatnot? I know there are a million what-ifs and nothing can be known in advance (what if he's "grad-and-go" to Prototype in NY?), but generally speaking, what would be likely?

I ask this because I'm pretty sure my daughter won't come home for Christmas break if her sailor can't come home!

Well B if you ever make it out here I'll be glad to host you nd or show you our great state. He really doesn't come home anymore to see us its more about his friends, but I do get a hug and usually a house full of boys. Some days I don't feel so blessed. lol. Glad I didn't post last name not even sure if he's a nuke yet so will hold off until I learn that and what state he's from so I can give a little more clues in guessing last name. lol

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Co-twin - the treats sound yummy!

1proudmama - that's so nice that your sailor is close enough to come home for quick visits!  I soooo wish we were closer so we could see ours more often - takes a lot of planning to get from CA to VA!  We'll make it happen eventually ;-)

Yep, you don't want to post the last name....maybe you could just put the 1st & last letter of the name & if they are on here they'll figure it out!  (I think that would be ok....)

I'm planning a trip to Mammoth for the end of the month.  We used to go every summer for a week (when both sailor son was in high school & then when college son was in high school).  Haven't been in 4 years and really looking forward to it!

Tina41 - Thank you for that, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.  I did get a little more info out on him last night (general info).  I guess I ask about it so much he found a way to generally talk to me about school if not for a second in out conversations.  I'll hold onto those moments and respect his decisions not to talk about it.  I guess it's harder that I thought to let him grow up and become a man.  LOL  Apron strings!!

I know my sons roommates last name but didn't want to give a shout out if not suppose to list last names.

boywondersmom- he is settling in, hasn't met his roommate yet must be on watch or leave. When he left he was like see you this weekend; so yeah I think he will be coming home as often as he can. I saw a picture of a group completing indoc was that the picture you are referring to. He goes to some safety meeting today not at base, we are  wondering how far from base he is at. He said about half an hour from where he said it took him about 30 minutes from where he checked in at, we are both guessing that is where base is at. Luckily he has a car, wonder how those who don't have one get back and forth. But I'm guessing most have cars at this point, at least the Nukes.Hoping he is with fellow Nuke. I'll keep in touch with you and hopefully if he has the desire or time he can come to fleets landing and chill with our family june 14-21 is when we will be down there.

1proudmama, my son is at the barracks at Huntington. He was trying for Portsmouth, didn't get it. But now that he's been there a month he said that while he's still trying to get to Portsmouth he's getting used to Huntington. Thank God! I was so worried for him that first week! He seems to be adjusting well. He just finish his INDOC last Friday and now just waiting for clearance badge to get onboard. CVN72 just posted a picture on their FB page. My son is in it. Makes me so proud. So happy for your son that he got Portsmouth. He's so close to home! He could go visit every weekend if he wants. :)

hello all!!

donna--my son didn't like talking about school.   he would ask a lot of questions about what was going on at home.  I too believe it was a little escape from school work.  when I would ask, all I would generally receive as a reply was "im doing ok"   he is now a nuke!!   hang in there,  sometimes just talking about home is an encouragement.  good luck to your sailor!!

nonnab--congratulations on your daughters engagement and  time with your sailor!!   also sorry to hear about your canine family member.

NonnaB- congratulations on fiance news. Glad your sailor can make celebrations, sorry to hear about your dog.

Donna they all struggle at some point in the pipeline. Mine did so so in  A school and then did much better in power school also. I think he just wasn't use to studying, yours sounds like he found his groove too. School is so stressful I could hear the relief in my sons voice when he graduated prototype. The month off was just what he needed. He reported to his base today he is only 2 hours from home so we expect to see him often while his ship is in dry dock getting make over.

Boywondersmom - my son got housing in portsmouth is that where your son is at? or hoping to get moved to I couldn't remember which.

NonnaB, congrats on the engagement and some home time with your Nuke!  I am so sorry about the loss of your dog.  My dog also just died less than 2 weeks ago and everyone misses him dearly, including his two doggie sisters and cat brother.  My daughter (teacher) just got engaged last month too.  She has already found a venue but the wedding is not till next summer.  Luckily, that gives us at least a little time to save lots and lots of money.  My Nuke is graduating Prototype the end of the month so hopefully we will have some time with him before he goes off to the Fleet.  Life is just crazy lately, isn't it?!?
