Hey there everyone! Lots of activity on here.  It's hard to keep up with everyone but I am trying to go back several pages to see what the conversations are about.  Congrats to all the new graduates and to those who are just starting their journey in the fleet.  Thanks BoyWonderMom for the info about Newport News.  I will have to pass that info along to my son as he has put down Virginia as one of his "dream choices".  Not sure exactly why as I have always heard not so good things about it.  Of course I would rather have him put down San Diego before VA anyway, but that's because I'm biased.  Not that he has any control over where the Navy sends him.  They are going to send him wherever they need him.  LOL  Still...this Mom is hoping for WA or San Diego.  I can dream!

Got to finally chat for a little while with my Sailor today.  SO HAPPY!  He starts Power School tomorrow and he is really excited and looking forward to getting back into the school routine after being on T-track for almost 2 full months.  He is also looking forward to all the math and science aspect of this round of schooling.  Don't ask me where he gets that geekiness from.   LOL  Oh and he recently moved into a new barracks and is happy that he doesn't have a roommate at this time.  This is the first time since he's been there that he doesn't have a roommate.  It gives him a chance to practice on his clarinet more often which is REALLY good for him so that can unwind some after a long hard day.  He just bought his first car last week too! We are so proud of him and how he went about the process.  He really took his time looking for the right car at the right price and didn't do anything stupid.  He got financed through NFCU and got his insurance through USAA.  He sure is loving the independence of having a car now.  It's amazing to see how they mature so quickly and take responsibility for their lives.  So proud!

My Sailor's twin just finished his first year of college too and he did quite well with a 3.4 GPA overall.  I was a bit worried that he might struggle through college, but he likes it and he is doing this all while holding down a job. Sure makes a Mom's heart happy to have two sons who are doing so well after high school and starting out on the right foot in life.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Wow britefuture - a Tiger Cruise!  How exciting.  I would love to be able to do one (and so would my hubby!).  Haven't heard anything about one on my son's ship.  That's so funny that your son is ordering from Amazon.

My guess was Mother's Day for the membership contest.  I've not been close yet! lol  Oh well, maybe next time ;-)  We were adding members fairly quickly & then it just sort of screeched to a halt...

Yes congrats to all of the newly qualified and graduating Sailors.

NancyJo- That's great that he is possibly coming home soon. I'm sure you're doing a happy dance.

I'm not 100% sure where my Sailor is floating around now. The last time we were messaging each other we figured out that he was 7 hours or so ahead of us. I asked him to just get a message to me so that I know he's okay. I got one sometime during the night last night that said he was doing okay and ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon. REALLY! They never stop being kids do they. Oh well! I'm just glad to hear from him. I did get word that there may be a Tiger Cruise this fall for his ship. That's super exciting! Better start doubling my penny jar contribution.

I read, in Navy Times, that the re-up bonuses have been or are going to be increased. The grid didn't make a lot of sense to me. I know my son is MM. Anyone else see it, that understands it?

We had an awesome bunch of storms here in MD, last night. Had to sleep with a very anxious three year old. There was a small river in front of my house and naturally, we planted our flowers yesterday. Ugh! Hopefully they didn't float down stream, lol. I'm sure it was nothing compared to those in the western portion of the country. Prayers for them.

Hope you are all well

A little "nuke humor" posted on the dad's site.  All in good fun! (We all know how our nukes truly are!)

Hi all - Happy Monday!

bclmomct - BZ to your son!  Best text ever no matter what time of that day or night ;-)

Looks like there are lots of sailors going to be heading home soon.  I also saw today that the GW is starting it's journey home and preparing for the historic 3-way swap....and here my son on the Truman is just wanting to get out on the ocean so he can see what it's like lol!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

So excited. Lots of chatter on the Vinson page about our sailors being home soon. Talked to my DIL last night and we are all aflutter. I wish I could be there for homecoming but then I think how my son has to reintegrate and how glad his family will be to see him, and I am content to give them that time. He has only been out 6 months compared to 10 months for most of those sailors since he joined the ship late. I feel for those who have been gone so long. God bless our sailors!

Just you wait, you moms in the pipeline. It doesn't end at proto graduation. It's just a whole new adventure. Thanks for being there! I don't know what I would do without N4M.

Internet down all weekend and just super busy during week. Congratulations on recent graduations. Helicopter news was very sad along with the Midshipman killed in train accident. For those out in the midwest and all those tornadoes hope everyone is safe.

Boywondermom - thanks for giving us the lowdown on what to expect. Doesn't sound to pleasant, college courses sounds like a good idea. My son is unfortunately an E4 so will be living on the barracks. I know my husband had a bunch of roomates and lived off base as an E4 just paid rent; I wonder if you can still do that.  I'll pm you on when he is reporting so our sons can hopefully hookup. We are going down to Virginia Beach area about 2 weeks after my son arrives. we have a trailer and there is suppose to be a really nice state park called first landing we will be there for a week. I'll shoot you the details, he's welcome to escape there with us if he has any time off while we are there.

Congrates to new qualified and graduating Sailors.

I find it funny that they text or call at such hours and we do not bat an eye at that. So happy to hear from our kids it doesn't matter when they call, text or message. Mine both tend to hit me for middle night contact. Like last night. My nuke forgot to consider that at 8pm his time is midnight mine. LOL
