KDsMom my son put the Ronald Reagan on the top of his list - he is hoping for Japan.  He won't find out for awhile, his graduation is scheduled for July.  Best wishes for your son!!

Hi all - Happy Monday!  This was my sunrise on the way to work today. Beautiful!

We had a warm weekend - 94*. Cooling down a bit now, but still pretty warm.  Hard to believe it's March!

KDsMom - here's the link to the Reagan page.

There are also a couple of Japan mom's pages and if you are on FB you should check there too!

good afternoon ,  I was just wondering if any of you have a Sailor going to San Diego soon and then to Yokosuka , Japan on the USS Ronald Reagan,  Our Sailor just called and told us that is where he is going , I was wondering if there are any groups for this

My twin on the Destroyer had me suspend his phone on Military hold (no charges the whole time he is gone) He FB messaged a lot and called via ship phone occasionally. Worked well and he did not have to pay for a phone for 8 months.

I hear they accrue roaming charges when in foreign lands especially. But could also get roaming feed in usa if for instance Verizon is most popular here but day Washington might be AT&T and would accrue roaming. Someone suggested to my son he get a no contract phone not tired to one carrier could slip in SIM card from different country and not get roaming fees. I've been reading a lot about it since but wanted to hear from mom's with sailors out in fleet if that know if this is beneficial or if anyone has done it.

1proudmama - I am not sure what you are talking about, but what is up with the cell phone thing?  What is the reason for no contract?

Comment by 1proudmama/EM/USSLincoln/CVN72 on March 15, 2015 at 4:05pm

For those of you tech savvy - Is it better to have an unlocked, not under contract cell phone while in Navy. I know little but have read about CDMA? and GMA? networks hope i have those initials right? one better then the other? Read some articles about sim cards and such more confused now. Friend has samsung unlocked Note 3 she is selling wondering if that would be good option for son especially since he will be assigned to ship soon.

cotwinmom one of my navy mom friends son also got his orders about a month early. He is also sub bound so maybe sub volunteers get there orders early??? Can never figure out the Navy in its ways. Congrats on doing so well with your baking. Way to go on following your dr

britefuture I'm glad you asked about how they get to their ship if out to sea. Everyone is so knowledgeable here.

So many here have sailors that are wrapping up their schooling part of the pipeline. It is so exciting to hear where everyone is going.

Comment by Mark on March 15, 2015 at 12:14am

britefuture - before traveling to report early, I'd recommend calling first to make sure it's ok.  The should be a contact phone number on his orders.
