Hey all I got a 100% on my Healthy baking exams today.!! the Chef can to me privately and said he had NEVER had anyone do so well on this exam. He told me I could be very proud. He said he could not tell my products were vegan or gluten free, they were perfect!! Had to convert regular recipes to the other diets then make them in 2 1/2 hours. He was impressed with my speed and how clean and organized I was. HooYa!!

Sent my boy a box 2nd say over a week ago and he said it is not there yet, tracking said it was delivered last Saturday.

He had not said how his comps or orals went yet? isn't it odd to get your orders before you officially pass?

B'nuke, it's 12 hours to Norfolk for us. My brother in law lives about an hour from Norfolk so it's very convenient.
Dinky, thanks! What about your sailor? Did he take the oral exam yet?, I have no idea as to when do they take it. Mine is doing sign offs.

Hi All - Happy RED shirt Friday!

BoyWonderMom - so happy your sailor got his first choice!  And nice that he is still fairly close to home ;-)  Hubby & I are planning to visit VA - just don't know when....I guess we have almost 4 years to figure it out though lol!  It's a little further for us, but we'll make it work.

College son has a track meet today/tonight.  Just glad his race isn't until about 7:30pm - gives it some time to cool down....

4 years ago we adopted our Marti Girl - Happy "Birthday" to her!

Happy Friday everyone! My sailor finally checked his next duty station, CVN72, Abraham Lincoln, VA.
It was his first choice so he's pretty happy about that. It's being refurbished, and won't be ready until next year. I really don't know if he likes that. We are in Florida so I'm very happy too. No word on the oral exam yet.

britefuture - by the Vinson skipper's FB post, TR will have a port call before relieving the ChuckWagon (common nickname for USS Carl Vinson I'm fond of) in the Gulf.  After he reports to whatever base his orders say, they should start making arrangements to fly him to whatever port is next in the ship's itinerary.  You probably wouldn't like this, but if I were him, reporting to a ship that was headed for SD as a homeport, and was about to make a port call in the Mediterranean somewhere, I would try to make it there for a one chance to visit (probably) Europe.  Reporting early would help in doing that.  The TR may make its port visit in less than a week also though, so he wouldn't make it in time at this point. After that there might not be another chance to catch the ship until it's on station in the Gulf, in which case he would probably fly to Bahrain, the HQ for the 5th fleet.  He's fortunate for the chance to make the better part of a world cruise - and SD is a terrific homeport.

britefuture - we did have a pretty spectacular sunset yesterday.  We had more cloud coverage than usual so it made for a beautiful sunset.  I wish I would have gotten a picture of it....our high tomorrow in my area is supposed to be 88* and 91* on Saturday!  We could still use some rain though.

I've heard of sailors in the past being flown out to meet their ships - also heard in some cases they will wait & meet up with the ship when they make a port stop.....guess it just depends (on who or what, I don't know lol!).

My sailor had a friend who was a nuke drop back in PS (in 2013).  He stayed in as a conventional MM & went to the Truman.  They were deployed already at the time so they flew him to Dubai & they put him up in a very fancy hotel for about 4 days until the ship arrived.  He told my son it was the nicest hotel he had ever seen!

Nice that your son will get a little (more) extended leave - enjoy the time with him. I hope he finds a good home for his kitties!
