While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Question for you. If my son has PIR on a Friday, do they normally have leave for the weekend before leaving for A School?

A drive from my daughter's house that should have taken an hr and 15 min took 2.5 hrs. I passed maybe 15 vehicles off the road. I love a snowy day at home looking at a beautiful white world. That was not so fun. Made me want to move to SD and wait for my sailor to come home.

Don't worry about me, by Friday even we are all going to be in Hawaii. Lol

I think I would just end up sitting in my house and waiting for the snow to thaw before I would venture out......I guess no one would see me for months LOL. Sure seems like a lot of prep work you have to go through but I guess you don't want to freeze to death.....

Comment by B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet) on February 2, 2015 at 1:59pm: Hi All - Happy Monday! We had a nice weekend - college son came home & spent the night Saturday so we had both boys home! Such a good feeling to have both kiddos sleeping under the same roof ;-) Here's a silly picture of all of us.

TJ Proudnukemom - Welcome! You will be able to give your son these items at the airport, but not before then. Keep in mind he won't have a lot of room. They can usually squeeze a laptop, shoes, phone & maybe a few clothing items in their backpack but it will be tight. He can have a computer in GC but it's not required as all work is done in the Rickover building. The laptop would be more for his personal use, watching movies, gaming, etc. Make sure you read the "pages" to the right under the member profiles. This will give you some info on what to expect. And of course be sure to join Boot Camp Mom's (if you haven't already) and then your PIR group.

He and I were discussing what I should bring to PIR for him. I think I've read somewhere that he can begin to wear his own underwear? What about his own running shoes? I've also read about mom's bringing their Sailor's computer. Will he be allowed to have that at GC? I appreciate any help and apologize if this is repetative but I couldn't find this specific info.

I rented a little mother in law cottage. 9 min from base. my son hung out there a lot and brought a friend who's family couldn't come. Hd BBQ in the little yard. Graduation was Wonderful. very moving. I posted where to call for the cottage in the discussions above. Click view all. My son took me all over the place. I spent a week there then took him home with me. Ceremony is outside and certain times of the year can be quite warm. Mine's was in August.
