Mark, when you went through, did they have more than the two prototype sites? I remember reading that they used to have one at Mare Island in San Francisco, and another in Idaho, or Iowa.

I guess that had to change when people from the same power school classes are split into different proto classes.  The proto class these days must usually be for a later class than power school, with the difference between the two reflecting the length of the hold for prototype.  It'll probably be twenty years (total guess) before prototype capacity catches up to power school capacity again and things return to normal.

Mark - I'm pretty sure they assign new class numbers to Prototype classes nowadays. Power school classes get split up and sent asunder.

My son was 1404 and graduated in Sept. Some from his class were grad and go directly to prototype in Charleston, some, like my son, were placed on grad hold for two months before being sent to Charleston or BS, then some of those started class right after moving, and some, like my son, were placed in pre-fill hold for another two months.

What I'm saying is that power school classes will be split up into many different prototype classes with many different starting dates at each of the facilities. My son will have been on hold for 4 months before he starts prototype - assuming there are no delays, while some of his power school classmates will have been in prototype for those 4 months.

Newbie...My son had leave after both A school and Power school. I do know A school is longer for EM and ET. There are hold times between A school/Power school and between Power School and prototype. My sone has been in power school since Sept I think. He graduated PS 8-1.

Boy WonderMom didn't ours graduate power school together? Are they in prorotype together or did yours go to BS? I can't remember.

Hi Rhonda K.  I live in Chico, CA!!!!  Congrats to your son on the fire academy!!  My nuke is on Grad hold at the moment, finished Power School just before Thanksgiving.

Dinky, my son is in Prototype class 1404 too, and his Power School class was 1402, he graduated back in June 6, 2014

What a wealth of information you all are! I have a few questions that I am sure you all can answer...

1) MM A school is 14 weeks, power school is 6 months, then prototype is 6 months...is that correct?

2) It seems as though most of your nukes have been in prototype for almost a year or even more...is this the normal time frame? For both GC and BS?

3) As for graduations...are A school and power school graduations close to the 14 weeks or 6 months completion date of each school? Example: if A school started this week would graduation be in exactly 14 weeks from now or is there a hold time?

4) Lastly, is there usually leave time between each school?
Comment by Dink(Vinson) on January 7, 2015 at 8:36pm
My son's Power School class was 1403, and his Prototype class is 1404, so it's not always the same.
