You can qualify for medicare and still earn a six figure income. Don't ever let anyone make you think you can't do it. It's possible. Dream it. Think it. Plan it. Do it. I give my former nuke officer a run for his money every day. Keeps him on his toes. My sister at 72, recently retired from her "civilian contractor to the Navy" job, is signing up to get her PhD in computer science. At 65, I am still learning, competing, accomplishing, making money. Keep it up ladies. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

Co twin - He can also eat what few mistakes you make, that is one smart and loving sailor!

To those who have Sailors that are struggling, my prayers go out to you. It's horrible when we can't "fix" things for them. They have to do it on their own and that's makes me want to cry. Just keep being positive and things will work out the way they are suppose to. When my son struggled I initially thought, "well, this is it, at least he tried". He was the one who had to encourage me by saying, "Mom, it's gonna be fine, my grades are high enough".  He said more but that was enough for me to understand. The Nuke program has been around for a while and has worked for many Sailors before we got there. My son just had to allow the program to work and stop trying to do it "his way". Any way, lots of good thoughts and prayers for the up and coming tests.

CO-TwinSalorsMom Good grief, divorce???????? I think you've had enough struggles in your life. You need a vacation. Culinary school? That's great! How long is that program?  I'm going back to school as well.  I absolutely loved being a firefighter/paramedic. However, I had an injury that will not allow me to ever go back to that career so I decided that I'm going back for Nursing. I wont start for a few years though. I'm waiting until my youngest starts full time school so that I can also go full time and knock out the RN program in two years. I always hope that my kids will understand that they're never too old to learn and that can and will overcome any struggles they may have.

My nuke son suggested that when I finish school and he finishes and knows where he will be stationed, I come there and open a bakery either on base as a Concession at the NEX or just off base. He said, "you'd make a killing with the sailors and you can be with me." My sweet boy.

Guess it looks funny that I didn't put the middle two in there at 26 and 23.  At least they are all gainfully employed.  Now if I could just get that granddaughter more often, this empty nest might not be too bad!

My youngest will be 19 in GC in June.  My oldest  turned 32 in Jan and had her first on March 26.  I am 51 so started early also.

You go - Co Twins Mom.  Sorry about about the divorce and the house but you have a plan and thats half the battle!  Yes, job security in the food industry!

My sailor is in 1418M and I have not heard from him in a few weeks.  I know they are busy so I am just trying to think positive.  Sent out a letter today with a Subway card in it, hope it will brighten his day.

Britefuture. You can be a proud sister LOL.  I find it funny how in my head I don't feel like I am older than in maybe my late 20's or early 30's. I am now going through a divorce, and losing my home of 28 years. Lots of adjustments My plan it to relocate to Boulder, CO and go back to school. I will be attending the Culinary Institute. I figure no mater what the economy people eat.

Love the poster B'sNukeMom

CO-TwinSalorsMom - Oh my goodness. The big "C" word. You have your angel wings. I'm sorry to hear that you went through that and BOY are WE blessed to have you with is. I can not imagine having twins and having to cope with that diagnosis. You must be a pillar of strength.
I started out young. Married at 20, first baby at 21 and second at 23. Unfortunately, my marriage ended early, by no choice of my own. I promised my self that I would never get married again nor have any more children. Long story there. Well, then I met my current husband and we have a 2 year old. I am 42. There are days when I feel like I'm still in my twenties and there are days when I feel like I'm 100. I can share that I went to an apt. with my oldest, who is 22, and the Doctor thought that I was her sister. "Yessssssss", I laughingly said.
