So I am sure I have asked this before but need to ask again.  If PIR is 12-28 would my son fly out on the 29th?  If holiday stand down is until Jan 6th. Do they still leave the next day and then have stand down at GC with everyone else?  Thanks. Ingrid

Just booked the flight and will be into the Albany airport Tuesday evening a little after 10:00 pm and then flying out Saturday afternoon.  I'm thinking that my son will be off work at that time so he can pick me up !!!  YIKES  Give me a day to just cook him some meals for the freezer and the weekend.  When are you planning to arrive in BS?

Comment by MN Mom of MM on November 21, 2012 at 1:05am

Congratulations and Bravo Zulu to your sailor Penny.  Are your plans set to be at the graduation the 29th?

Just received the good news, my son has been selected to become MM second class petty officer. Another very lofty goal met and I am so proud of all his hard work to get this advancement to E-5 while still in Prototype.

Hi all - thanks so much for the info on flying back to Goose Creek after boot camp PIR!  I got son's reservations made today and he is good to go!  I took your advice and he will be arriving back the day before to be safe.....so happy that we will get to spend time with him before he starts all his schooling.

Mike's'Mom it is good to hear things have worked out well for your son and they have given him a highly technical electronics tecnnician rating. It sounds like he got a very good deal and will be successful. Also this path improves his chance if he comes back in 2 years as a trained ET (if he wants to stay a nuke), isn't later still the better path? This may be a blessing in disguise. Nuclear is a very long and stressful program, with extremely long hours, they are deliberately putting stress on them on purpose to see how well they react to stress the Chaplain is speaking the truth.

As usual, this group runs the gamut of new friend to seasoned parent. Mike'sMom, best of luck to your sailor. Funny how things can work out. I bet your sailor will love his new assignment. Where one door closes....

Dor, God bless you and your sons. My BIL has PTSD and it's a hard road. Sounds like Jason is getting the help he needs. I pray his recover continues. Meanwhile, enjoy having all your sons with you again.

Comment by DebbiL on November 20, 2012 at 8:54am

Thank you all so much for the support - here's the update:

He will be going to A-school at Great Lakes for communications something or another (IC ET?)  It was the most technical thing they had available at the time. He was also advised that he can reapply to Nuke school, but needs to wait 2 years. His main goal was to get into a school, and not go undesignated. He had very few options, but hopefully this will work out for the best.

I pray that God looks over your loved ones in the Nuke program, After talking with the Chaplain yesterday, they are very careful about any "mental health issues" not only because of the sensitivity of the information, but also because of the amount of stress they must endure.

I hope you are able to spend some time with your Sailors this holiday season. Thank you all again, and I'll be joining another group on N4Ms - this website is a God-send!!

Hugs  :)

Hi B'snukemom you should fly into CHS airport they do have a USO there and they have a duty van at the school that can pick him up. The only thing I would suggest is if your son has to report by the 29th then I would schedule his flight the 28th or else get an early morning flight.
